Once the everyone got settled, it was game time... First up, the Widgets... Matteson Bears vs. Markham Patriots. This is their first meeting of the season due to Mother Nature raining out an earlier scheduled game. |
The first half of the game was a defensive chess match... each team trying to put together a strategy to move the ball but on the defensive side, players were countering just about every play also. |
So, at halftime, the score was tied at zero.
Then after a wonderful, energetic halftime performance by Matteson Bears' honeybears, the second half began.
During the second half, Patriots managed to get on the board first with Mr. Justin Halls' 52 yard scamper down the field for a touchdown. |
Shortly after their first score, Markham scored again when Mr. Jayshon Jackson ran in for a touchdown and extra point conversion care of Mr. Hall. |
The Matteson Bears found themselves in the red zone a couple of times but were unable to score due to offensive penalties as well as strong defensive plays by the Patriots. Thus, the Markham Patriots were crowned the 2008 Will-Cook Widget Superbowl champions.
