Mother Nature aka Madea Nature won over 95% of the varsity games Friday night by supplying an abundance of lightning in the area preventing games to be played. But she surrendered on Saturday and allowed for the 2013 season to kick-off. Here is our recap...

Joliet Central 0, Rich Central 44


The Olympians jumped out early on the visiting Steelmen and took an early lead of 30-0 at the half, and would add an additional 14 in the second half, blowing them out 44-0 to start the 2013 season off.

Rich Central "new" designed fast offense kept Joliet Central off balanced. The play of quarterback Michael Hoover helped the home team rack up 346 of total offense including 69 yards on the ground and 120 in the air. Senior running back Ahmad McClellan rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns.

Even special teams got into the action when junior Deshon Kelly returned the second-half opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.

And on the other side of the ball, Joliet Central were held to 83 total yards and 10 first downs.

Joliet Central (0-1) running back Sylvester Bellamy rushed for 76 yards.

The Olympians extended the Steelmen's winless streak to 28 games.

Crete-Monee 43, TF South 6
Defending 6A champ Crete-Monee began its title defense with a dominant performance on defense and special teams in a BIG  nonconference victory over T.F. South in Lansing.

Already winning 13-0, Crete-Monee went up 15-0 when Chris Jernigan sacked T.F. South quarterback Cody Petrich in the end zone. Elijah Douglas returned the following kick 71 yards to put the Warriors up 23-0 following a two-point conversion.

Simeon 8, Homewood-Flossmoor 20
Isaac Cutrara completed 14-of-17 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns, including two scores to James Sheehan, as Homewood-Flossmoor outlasted Simeon 27-13 Saturday evening in Homewood.

Thornwood 13, Bloom 34
Kendall McGinnis threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns, all to running back Justus Brantley, as Bloom rushed past Thornwood 34-13.

Harlan 14, Richards (Oak Lawn) 58
Junior quarterback Hasan Muhammad-Rogers threw for 235 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 45 yards and two other scores to lead No. 20 Richards to a 58-14 win Saturday against visiting Harlan.
