This was
AmateurSports365.com's High School game of the week
and it was well-worth it, as 2012 Class 6A Champions
survived the visiting Wolverines 14-12 win. Simeon (0-3) had many chances to steal a victory against the Warriors including a 30-yard field goal attempt with 10 seconds left to play by Raekwon Adams, who kicked it wide-right. Prior to all of that, Simeon got on the board first on a 24-yard interception return by Malik Parker which made the game 6-0. The Warriors (3-0) responded right before the end of the half on a 11-yard screen pass to DeShaun Smith from Frank Douglass to take a 7-6 advantage. Simeon regained the lead, 12-6, on 34 yard run by Darnell Crockrell with 8:20 in 3rd. 12-6, but right before the end of the third quarter, the Warriors took the lead and the final score, on a fourth down play, when QB Frank Douglas tossed a short pass to Kevon Love. Douglass finished the game 10-for-24 for 115 yards and two touchdown passes with one interception. After the game, first year Crete-Monee coach John Konecki said βitβs better to be lucky than good sometimes. That was by far the most physical team we have played all season.β Even with this close win, the Warriors have picked up right where they left off from their 2012 Class 6A championship run and recognize that the target on their back is pretty large.
