Brother Rice 23, St. Rita 21
This contest against rivals wasn't decided early.... in fact with just 1 minute, 52 seconds left capped a nine-play, 70-yard scoring drive in the Crusaders' 23-21 Catholic League Blue upset road victory against St. Rita.

It was senior quarterback for the Crusaders, Matt Page (29-for-45, 394 yards, 3 TDs), who took a 1-yard plunge for the win.

"I was thinking about tonight all day today," Page said. "I knew when it came down to it, I had faith in myself and my team that we could get the job done."

Nazareth 33, Joliet Catholic 34 (OT)
Wow... what a couple of weeks for Nazareth as they loose two heartbreakers in a row.

Last week, they came up short against East Suburban Catholic Conference contender Marist, and now, they lost in overtime 34-33 against Joliet Catholic.

This time the Roadrunners went for the victory in overtime. After Joshua Moore (19 carries, 130 yards, 3 TDs) scored his third rushing touchdown of the game for the Roadrunners (2-2, 0-2 ESCC), coach Tim Racki opted to go for the two-point conversion rather than kicking the extra-point to force another OT.

"We needed this. We've had a lot of close losses the last couple years, so to win one of these was big for our confidence," Joliet Catholic coach Dan Sharp said. "Especially our defense. We give a touchdown away on a fumble return and our defense comes through with a big stop in overtime on the two-point conversion."

Jake Bartels (25-for-37, 243 yards, 1 TD) threw an incomplete pass while being rushed, and the Hilltoppers (3-1, 2-0 ESCC) escaped. Tyler Reitz scored the game-winning touchdown from 10 yards on the first play of overtime, while Nazareth keyed on Joliet Catholic running back Ty Isaac.

The Roadrunners held the USC-bound Isaac to 102 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, and forced a key fumble late in the fourth. Isaac left the game a couple of times with apparent shoulder problems.

"It's just the stingers and stuff," Isaac said. "It's just going to be part of the season for me this year. I can't really afford to take two weeks off, so I need to deal with it and get better."

Things looked good for the Hilltoppers to start the fourth, but it quickly unraveled.

Leading 14-13 late in the third, Joliet Catholic extended its lead early in the final quarter after a 44-yard pass from Craig Slowik to Chris Tschida to set up a 5-yard TD run by Isaac. The extra point sailed wide left, though, and JCA led 27-19 with 11:02 left in regulation.

Both teams then had good opportunities to end the game spoiled by costly fumbles. The Hilltoppers fumbled twice on successive possessions, including the first deep in its own end with 5:04 left that resulted in an 8-yard fumble return TD by Nicholas Murphy.

Nazareth tacked on the two-point conversion on a great catch by Zach Manuel, which led to overtime.

"I didn't have a doubt," Racki said of going for two. "There were a lot of different factors, but I'd do it again. Put it that way. I just felt good about it and you see what they did on the first play. They also blocked an extra point on us before that.

"Rough two weeks, you know? This is a defining moment. They can go one way or they can go the other. I know we're going to go the right way because we have enough leadership on this team. We just have realize now it's a matter of time. There's a reason this is happening, but there's no finality to it. We'
ve got to start closing the deal and we will."
