Does anyone have a  team in the state have a tougher back-to-back than our number 5 Homewood-Flossmoor, as they take on our number 4 Lincoln-Way East conference foe. Next week... you guessed it... our number one Bolingbrook team. WHEW!!!! So there is absolutely NO looking ahead in this one... On Friday night, it was Tom Fuessel, a senior and first-year starter, was electrifying Friday night, outrunning a defense built on speed and making some key throws to lead the Griffins to a 35-20 victory over the Vikings in Frankfort.

Fuessel (Northern Illinois recruit) rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries and threw for 97 yards and a score as Lincoln-Way East (4-0, 2-0) extended its Southwest Suburban Blue winning streak to 18.

"Tommy Fuessel is special," Lincoln-Way East coach Rob Zvonar said. "You saw it tonight. When we needed a big play, he made it with his legs or his arm. Tommy is a heck of a quarterback. We always knew his throwing would come around."

Fuessel's inexperience showed a couple of times in the first half, but the Griffins seemed to have the game under control until a bad snap in the third quarter gave H-F (3-1, 1-1) new life.

Four plays later, Taje Smith (16 carries, 100 yards, TD) took a direct snap 32 yards to cut the Vikings deficit to 21-14, but Fuessel had an answer.

He delivered a 39-yard bullet to Justin Corbett on third-and-14 a play before breaking off an 18-yard run to the H-F 1. Brian Casey ran it in to give the Griffins a two-touchdown cushion.

Griffins gets a head-start toward the conference title.

Vikings vs. Griffins

Coming into this game both teams have some offensive difference makers: Griffins rely on Northern Illinois-bound QB Tommy Fuessel (326 yards rushing, 201 yards passing, five total TDs) and RB Nick Colangelo (203 yards, two TDs), while H-F has QB Ron Johnson (500 yards, five TDs), TE James Sheehan (12 catches, 217 yards, three TDs) and RB Taje Smith (331 yards, three TDs).

Speaking of offense... H-F runs a shotgun spread, read option, has weapons in senior QB Ronald Johnson and senior RB Taje Smith. Lincoln-Way East will rely on senior QB Tommy Fuessel (NIU) who is as dangerous a runner as any QB in the state. Also keep an eye on junior RB Nick Colangelo.

On the other side of the ball... East relies on speed... as they lockdown Lockport to just 120 total yards. Senior LB Adam O'Grady is a leader. Keep an eye on senior DB Sean Doherty. H-F also has a ton of speed and a lot of athletes, which it will need.

Again if this game proved one thing, the Southwest Suburban Blue conference will not be a push-over coming down the stretch.
