Our game of the week is being streamed courtesy of HighSchoolCube.com

This game played out totally the opposite of the way you saw it during pregame, as Crete-Monee defeated Marian Catholic 30-7 Friday night in Chicago Heights. To obtain this victory, they had to overcome over 150-yards worth of penalties and three turnovers.

Coming into this game, you just knew senior phenom Laquon Treadwell (88 yards) would make his presence felt on both sides of the ball, but the Spartans were able to frustrate him and the team in the first half keeping them scoreless. It took two players though to hold him down in the first half as John Hotchkiss covered him tight including a sure touchdown grab that was knocked out of his hands, and Justin Harris, who slapped a ball away and the deflection was hauled in for an interception by Hotchkiss.

But as faith and hard work has it, Treadwell got into the game, as he took a simple screen pass 41 yards for Crete-Moneeā€™s second score of the game in the third quarter. In addition to the touchdown catch, Treadwell also made two interceptions, kicked two extra points and caught a pass from Marcus Terrell for a two-point conversion.

"After the start, we knew we had to come out and make plays on both sides of the ball and fight back," Treadwell said.

On the other side of the ball, the Warriors scored again when linebacker Nyles Morgan picked up a fumble and returned it 75 yards for a touchdown. The Warriors forced six Spartan turnovers.

"The game is good because it wakes you up," said Warriors coach Jerry Verde, who played football on Marian Catholic's 1993 state championship team. "This effort was not good enough for the team we think we should be."

The Warriors' ground game was led by DeShaun Smith, who rushed for 91 yards and one touchdown. In addition, Darius Thomas added a 29-yard score midway through the third quarter to put the Warriors ahead 21-7.

"Our kids played very hard, but you hope to see progress here," Spartan coach Dave Mattio said. "Our defense played wonderfully tonight; offensively, we've got a long way to go."
