as Will-Cook-Kankakee Cheer Association Shake Things
Up! By Cynthia Fitch November 3, 2012 Will-Cook Kankakee Cheer Association (WCKCA) hosted its annual cheer competition this past Saturday at Thornwood high school in South Holland, IL. This years competition was full of many of the things that has helped it be such a success, but a few things changed. For instance, over the past eleven years, the competition has been held at Rich Central high school, but this year, the event was moved to Thornwood, since it has a larger seating capacity. In addition to the venue change, this year the WCKCA had several sponsors that supported the competition, including but not limited to Gingerbread House Childcare, Evergreen Park Pharmacy, Tammy Gant, and Hazel Crest Park District. |

Another significant change was how the Association broke up each level, Widget, Pee-Wee, Jr. Varsity and Varsity, into four separate levels: Small, Medium and Large brackets. The multiple break ups gives every team, at every level, a clearer opportunity for top prizes versus the way it was formatted in the past. Some teams with smaller squads expressed concerns that it’s hard to compare a 5 person squad with a 20+ member squad visually as well as various stunts. WCKCA took these concerns to heart and considered the vast differences in the sizes of the participating organizations.
It is important to note that this format is similar to the brackets used in other All-Star Competitive Cheer Events. And finally, two new teams were added into the competition: Calumet City Thunderbolts and Dixmoor Vikings. These two new teams definitely came ready to mix it up as they took home several awards Here are the results for the 2012 Will-Cook Kankakee Cheer Association Cheer Competition... |
