SouthWest Midget Football League SuperBowl Coverage...

November 15, 2008

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL PLAYERS, TEAMS AND ORGANIZATIONS!!!

In one of the games covered by Amateur Sports, we took a look at the Dolton Bears vs Homer Stallions.

On this cold, Saturday afternoon... both sides were fired up to play, but it was Homer who struck first and often. They took an early lead and didn't let go. As football goes, it's all about half-time  adjustments...

In the second half, the Bears came out a different team not only scoring on the first possession but with a turnover, they scored again... getting right back into the game. And in the middle of the third quarter, they found themselves down  25 - 13 and marching down the field.

But, the Stallions had a different plan on the afternoon. They were able to hold off the Bears and win this segment of the SouthWest Midget League Superbowl.

In the second game, Dolton Bears took on New Lenox Mustangs. This is a season re-match where both teams split.

The game was a defensive game with both teams trying to get a feel for each other. In this game, the Bears struck first with a long, edgy run by number 11 on a well-ran play for over 60 yards.
But on the very next possession, the Mustangs scored to tie the game. At this point, the game remained tied until late into the third quarter when they took the lead on a short sprint to the right, 12 - 6.

During the next 9 minutes of play in the fourth quarter, both teams found it difficult to move the ball. After a couple of questionable calls against the Bears, they found themselves with a third and long and on a bad quarterback exchange, they turned the ball over.  The Mustangs held the ball for most of the quarter - running the clock. But when they couldn't convert on a fourth down conversion the Bears had the ball and one more chance with a little more than two minutes with a running clock.

The Mustangs turned up the heat on defense and stopped the Bears three straight times and on the fourth, the held them to end the game but received a facemask - giving the Bears one more shot with an expired clock.

With everyone in attendance on their feet, the Bears ran a quarter run play that had the player dancing around until he found a hole on the left and sprinted down the field for about 20 yards but was caught to end the game.
