Mount Carmel 17, ProvidencE 0
Can the Mount
Carmel knock off the Providence and capture a share
of the Catholic Blue title? Last season, the Caravan
loss 24-18 to the Celtics. The Caravan relies on the
arm of QB Don Butkus and a ball-control running
game. Providence, which had six starters out against
St. Ignatius, slowly is regaining health. WR Miles
Boykin and playmaker Chad Weaver will be game-time
decisions. RB Brandon Price (822 yards, 5.6 average)
is the Celtics’ go-to threat. In an offenseless contest Mount Carmel snags a victory over Providence 17-0 in Friday's Chicago Catholic League Blue game. The Caravan forced six turnovers and scored a defensive touchdown. Mount Carmel senior Vincent Speller had the biggest play, scooping up a fumble and racing 88 yards for a touchdown late in the second quarter. "Scoop and score," Speller said of his mindset. "Providence beat us last year. We were on the road to redemption. We had a lot of anger." The game turned into a defensive battle filled with turnovers and penalties. The Caravan finished with 162 total yards, with punter Joe Pavlik (15-yard run) tallying half of quarterback Don Butkus' total offensive output. Butkus failed to complete a pass in eight attempts and rushed for 30 yards on 12 carries. In conjunction with HighSchoolCube.com, we are streaming this game to our web site.
