xTreme Spirit Cheer Competition
"Mardi Gras Classic"

PALATINE - The xTreme Spirit Cheer competition - Mardi Gras Classic edition was held this past weekend @ Harper College in Palatine, Illinois. The Competition consisted of over 60 squads competing at various levels.

Based on the environment set forth by xTreme Spirit, the primary purpose of this cheerleading event is to compete for an invitation to the National Championship held April 17th @ Navy Pier, as well as a financial discount consisting of Gold (first place teams, receive free registration); silver (or second place teams, receive 50% off) and bronze (receives 25% off) plus industry leading recognition and trophies, banners, and plaques.

For many cheerleading squads, the difficult road to the national championship is quite similar to that of a non-BCS college football team. A spirit squad will showcase their best routine complete with music and cheering at a league championship level and wait patiently to see if the judges will give them enough points to be ranked at the top.

Many squads stood out, not only with their performances, but also from fan participation. One new team, was newcomer Will-Cook Cheer Association (WCCA). They competed in their very first competition.

This team is complied with cheerleaders from various football teams in the Will-Cook Youth League. WCCA competed at the L2 junior level against 8 other teams and came in 7th place. Not bad for their very first competition.

Another team that continues to make their presence felt around the area is Chicago Xplosion All-stars. They had several teams in the competition and finished with top spots including first place at the L1 Youth Large category. The team is coached by LaShawn Henderson. One more note-worthy team is Kids Spot Cheer. At the time of this writing, this squad finished first at 4 levels... L1 Tiny, L1 Youth L2 Junior and L2 Youth, including highest score overall at level L1. For more information on Kids Spots, visit them at www.kidsspotinc.com.
