MATTESON - On June 5, 2009, Dollars for Scholars Matteson Chapter #1462 hosted a fundraiser at Knockouts Sports Bar and Grill in Matteson, Illinois.

Dollars for Scholars was created under the guidance of Dr. Irving Fradkin in 1958, who had a simple but profound idea—if everyone in his community gave just a dollar to an educational fund, it would be enough to help nearly every student in the community who wanted to attend college. It has expanded into what, today, is the nation's largest non-profit, private-sector scholarship and educational support organization.

This mission has been carried down to smaller cities across America, and in Matteson, Illinois, their program not only incorporates the global mission, it applies it at the grass root level by organizing local citizens to help provide financial aid, personal encouragement and support to our youth as they pursue higher levels of academic achievement. Currently, the Matteson Chapter is overseen by President Maria Henderson, who has served for over five years. For more on Mrs. Henderson, click here.
