As the
2009 edition wrapped up Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in
Bloomington,
Ill., only one team managed to repeat. Not surprisingly, it was Coed Class
champion Elk Grove.
The Grenadiers won their fourth straight championship to remain the only
school to hoist a title trophy in the class. The Grenadiers edged
runner-up O'Fallon by .64 points, 90.80-90.16.
And after runner-up finishes in 2007 and '08, Lemont broke through with
the Medium Class crown, its first in the sport.
Sandburg rounded out the day's state champions with a win in the Large
Class, giving the school its second title. The Eagles won the inaugural
title in 2006.
Trenton Wesclin's (83.92) edged Paris (83.54) in the small class.
