In a word, WOW!!! Then to go to in-conference foe.... "sniff sniff" - this stinks especially for Raider Nation!

Bolingbrook athletic director Robert Rose confirmed that girls basketball coach Tony Smith has taken the same position at Homewood-Flossmoor.

"Tony did a great job here at Bolingbrook, and we're sad to lose him," Rose said. "He had a great run here, and we wish him luck at Homewood-Flossmoor."

Smith helped lead the Raiders to three consecutive 4A state titles between 2009-2011. Bolingbrook lost in the supersectionals the last two seasons, with both losses coming to Young. Bolingbrook finished the 2012-2013 season with a 24-6 record.

He now takes his talents to H-F, where the coaching position was vacated when three-year coach Dana Noble was not rehired after this past season. Noble compiled a 63-25 record in his three years.

“It’s very exciting for us,” Homewood-Flossmoor athletic director Alec Anderson said. “When the position opened we weren’t sure what was going to happen to be quite honest. We had a really high quality group of applicants, and our three finalists were second to none.

“Tony did a great job of interviewing, and the committee really liked him as a coach and as a person. We felt it was a good fit, and fortunately for us we were able to get him to move from Bolingbrook.”

Bolingbrook will now search for Smith's replacement.

"It's a little late in the game (during the school year), but we'll post the position to our district website, and see what we can get," Rose said. "It's an open position, not just in the building. We'll find the best possible replacement."
