Holiday tournament season is here. Which girls and boys basketball team will win it all?

The best of the best are ready to showcase their talents in most cases... it's 4 games in 3 (or 4 days) ALL in one location!!!!

For those craving more holiday time "local" basketball, here are the known tournaments....

PROVISO WEST

11 teams in the field of 16 have been ranked during this season or were currently unbeaten at the time of the pairings, highlighting one of the deepest tournament's in the 51 year history of the event.

Over the past 50 years the tournament has had 29 players to play in it to go on to professional basketball in the ABA (prior to 1970) and the NBA. There have been 14 teams that have played in this event to later go on to win the Illinois state basketball championship in the same year. Since its inception, over 250 players have participated in this event and later went on to play collegiate basketball at the Division I level. Check out the Bracket by clicking here.

NOTE: The 50-plus-year-old tournament will expand to 32 teams next year (2012) according to tournament director Joe Spagnolo.

"I got tired of saying 'no' to new teams that wanted to play here," he said in a release.

To accommodate the expansion, the tournament will now run over six days, and portable flooring and baskets will be added in the field house. For more on the expansion visit http://pwhoops.com/release20111212.htm.

PONTIAC TOURNAMENT
This basketball tournament is loaded as it will feature four of the top ten high school basketball teams in Illinois (including the nation's #1 ranked team according to ESPN), the top player in the nation from the class of 2013, the state's top prospect from 2012 and the #2 prospects from 2013 and 2014.

The top four seeds at this year's Pontiac tournament are Simeon, Warren, Curie and Peoria Manual. To top everything off, the atmosphere is second to none. While all three days at Pontiac figure to have some spectacular games, the final day of action (which includes the final four and championship game) is a must for anyone who is a fan of Illinois high school basketball. This year's event will feature a great deal of star power with Jabari Parker (Chicago Simeon), Marquette-bound Steve Taylor (Chicago Simeon), Kendrick Nunn (Chicago Simeon), Cliff Alexander (Chicago Curie), Devin Foster (Chicago Curie), Malcolm Hill-Bey (Chicago Curie), Western Michigan-bound Darius Paul, Toledo-bound Nathan Boothe (Warren Township), Loyola-bound Jeff White (Peoria Manual), Wright State-bound Jacoby Roddy (Peoria Manual), A.J. Riley (Peoria Manual), Bradley-bound Ka'Darryl Bell (Oak Park-River Forest) and Loyola-bound Quinten Payne (St. Charles North) all expected to compete.

And last year, Two-time defending Class 4A state champion Simeon defeated Warren Township to win the title 58-50 ahead of the two teams ultimately meeting for the Class 4A state championship.

With that having been said, here are the opening round matchups at Pontiac. Everything gets started Wednesday, December 28 at 9:00am. Complete tournament details can be found at PontiacHolidayTournament.com.

MACOMB-WESTERN HOLIDAY BASKETBALL
2011 Macomb-Western Holiday Basketball Tournament which will take place at Western Hall and Macomb High School December 28th through 30th. Historically, the tournament has only seeded the top four teams in order to give the tournament committee flexibility in creating first round matchups. That flexibility is used to avoid first round matchups between two teams from the same conference or two teams which will have already played prior to the tournament.

Besides win-loss records, head-to-head, and common opponents, the tournament committee spends the first three weeks of the season scouting all the tournament teams in person to help determine the seedings. This year's top four seeds are:

1) Metamora (7-0)
2) Monmouth-Roseville (8-0)
3) Eureka (5-1)
4) Macomb (6-2)
