Pure Thornton luck, or is it?portion of story courtesy of Sun-Times.com SOUTH HOLLAND - Imagine this... upwards of 80 degrees in the Chicagoland area in late September... homecoming weekend but you are the visiting team... you are anxious to get the game going and on the opening kickoff you muff it... what do you do? Well, Jamal Gray, regrouped himself within seconds... he picked up ball and raced down the field through Thornwood's special team for a 96 yard touchdown. From this point forward, Thornton never lost the lead for the rest of the afternoon. Gray also caught a touchdown pass later in the game.
Darren Jones threw for 3 touchdowns for the BIG win. . . 48 - 6 Coach Mosel of Thornton was asked how has his school been able to send so many players to the NFL, he responded saying "Luck." Currently, Thornton has contributed eight players to the NFL: Antwaan Randle El, Napoleon Harris, Tai Streets, Sammy Williams, Winfield Garnett, Jack Golden, Barry Gardner, and Jermaine Hampton. "When you look at the odds of a high school kid going to the NFL, to get one is luck. But we've had eight, all in the NFL at the same time. It says we didn't mess them up. The majority of them were dual and three-sport athletes. They gave themselves an opportunity to play football and they worked hard."
And on deck are two more players, Tim Jamison (Michigan) and Keyon Brown (Purdue) who could be future NFL players.
