Stars' shine light in Olympians eyes

Matteson  - Celebrating their homecoming, Rich South was determined to get a victory. And as the football quote goes... "offense sells tickets... defense wins games." On this night, this was very, very true. Trailing going in to the fourth quarter, Rich Central's standout, Giorgio Bowers broke a 61 yard run down to  the Stars' 5-yard line.

On the very next play, the Olympians called his number but  this time, Rich South linebacker Thomas Mathis, stripped the ball right out of his hands and sprinted down the field but was tackled at midfield. The Stars' didn't' score after this turnover but they prevented what seemed to be an inevitable score by the Olympians.

After a Stars' punt, the Olympians were moving the ball down the field when cornerback Quentin Boyd intercepted a pass and ran it back for a touchdown with 2 minutes on the game clock put them ahead 30 - 20 (including a successful extra point pass).

On the very next possession, Bowers showed scouts he has a short memory when his number was called to sprint down the field for a score with 1:30 left in the game bring the score closer, 30 - 26.

Now it was time for an onside kick, hoping for a favorable bounce and a turnover.  Unfortunately, the Olympians failed to convert.

"I don't like coming up short in a game I know we could have won," Rich Central coach Steve Tadlock said.

Despite the early turnover, Bowers had a great game scoring four touchdowns and rushing for over 100 yards.
