Amateur Sports News Network Visits "The BIG House"

Talk about an experience... Just the mystique of the stadium grabs  your attention and truly holds it. I truly understand why the University of Michigan recruits so well in football. It's been dubbed "The Big House" by fans of the Maize and Blue and Big Ten visitors alike. The name is certainly fitting, as Michigan Stadium, home of the college team the Michigan Wolverines, is the largest football stadium in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). With a capacity of 107,501 Michigan Stadium haunts any team that dares visit the likes of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and has done so since the year of 1927.

It's capacity could nearly hold the entire city of Ann Arbor, and is undergoing renovations that will up the stadium's maximum capacity to a little over 108,000.  Michigan Stadium  might not look very large when you see it in person, but that is only because it's built mostly below ground level. In fact, only 20 of the upper rows are visible from the outside. Overall, I can truly say, as of today, there is no better place to attend a football game on a Saturday Afternoon than Michigan Stadium.

Here are a few pictures from my experience. . .

what better way to start gameday off than a little tailgating

My top 10 reasons why the Michigan football experience is O-U-T-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G..

10. The football field is in the heart of Ann Arbor, Michigan and easy to access.

9. Easy access to the restrooms - lots and lots of troughs!!! No waiting!!!

8. HUGE, successful alumni associations

7. Excellent retail shops - Wolverine Den!

6. Great food served @ the stadium... from Italian beefs to Vienna sausages to chicken sandwiches... but no liquor!

5. Renovation of the future for the stadium - click here!

4. Great tradition and fight song

3. Playing in front of over 100,000 cheering fans each and every weekend (home games). University of Michigan is always recognized as one of the toughest places to play.

2. No limits on tailgating (i.e. times, location, etc...)

1. Parking - considering it's over 100,000 people attending the game, parking was not a problem.. attendees can parking just about anywhere with no restrictions (i.e., University of Michigan golf course (actually on the golf course), Pioneer high school field and parking lot, local businesses can sell spots, homeowners can sell parking spots even on their lawn) - click here to see.

Our staff hopes to make this an annual event...
