FLOSSMOOR - You guessed it, the 2009 boys All-Stars vs. South Suburban McLegends! The game featured past legends such as Antwaan Randle El (Thornton 1997, Redskins), Napoleon Harris (Thornton 1997, Vikings), Danny Clark (1996 Hillcrest, Giants), Tai Streets (Thornton 1995, 49ers), Jeff Diehl (Brother Rice 1993, Giants), Greg Lewis (Rich South 1998, Patriots) and Walter Young (Rich East 1998, Steelers) battling current high school stars like Homewood-Flossmoor's Jeremy Saffold and |

Michael Buchanan, Bloom's Aaron Nelson, Rich East's Shea Sumpter and Thornton's Jamal Gray.
At halftime, Homewood-Flossmoor alums
Nolan Harrison (defensive
lineman for 10 years with Raiders, Steelers, and Redskins) and
Wes Hamilton (right guard for 9
years with Vikings) jerseys' were retired. The Stars took a 4 point lead into the |
However, the Legends weren't about to give up as they stormed back with Kenyea Beach (Crete-Monee 1996) hitting what looked like a game-winning 3-pointer with 00:03 left to play. But 6'1" Thornton senior Jamal Gray sent it to OT with a 30-footer at the buzzer! |
In overtime it was more back and forth
action with the teams trading baskets until
Napoleon Harris (Thornton 1997)
sealed the deal for the Legends nailing a baseline 3-pointer as the
clock hit 00:00 to give the Legends an amazing 126 - 125 win. "Man, I
haven't hit a shot like that in about 15 years. Actually, maybe even
longer," said Harris, a Thornton High School and Northwestern University
product. "Every man on our legends team is a competitor and we
definitely didn't want to lose this game. The young guys, as always,
gave us a great challenge and showed why they were selected as All-Area
players. It took a lot for us to stick with them."
Just think, without that one point from Ronald (McDonald), the McLegends would have lost in regulation. |

Beach was named

The game will re-air on Comcast Digital 100 Tuesday, April 21st @ 7pm.
The event was sponsored by the Southtown Star, McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Aurelio's Pizza and CN100. A portion of the proceeds went to Southtown Star's Project Share, which feeds needy families during the holidays, the Ron Bean Scholarship Fund at H-F, and Ronald McDonald House.
Also on this evening Danny Clark and the Danny Clark Foundation hosted a benefit at the River East Art Center in Chicago. His foundation assists under-serviced communities with the resources needed to help children and familes. The event was entitled "Cirque du Lumiere." |
