The Knights command the Commandos...

NORMAL - In the very first game of the day, the Commandos (35-7) took control early in the first quarter with a 6-0 run led by GodBold. At this point, the Commando’s were playing their game attacking the basket, forcing turovers and apply pressure. A few minutes later, the Knights finally got on the board from the free throw line due to a foul. From this point, the Commando’s were stuck on 6-points for over 13 minutes.

“We just were not able to hit our shots,” said Godbold after the game.

During their drought, the Lady Knights behind sophomore player Mariah Smith extended the led to a 9-point lead.

The Knights six-foot junior, Katie Murphy, knocked down a big 2 with 15 seconds before the buzzer at the end of the ending the Quarter with a lead of 11-6.

In the second quarter six-foot junior Katie Murphy was on fire along with Smith. They began attacking the rim with a 10-2 run and extended their lead to 23-8.

The Commandos were able to close the gap at the half to seven, 35-28. That was proven to be short lived. In the second half, the Knights pick up right where they left off with a three-pointer from Amber Metzger.

“The Peoria team played outstanding defense,” said Gators after the game. “You can score 35 points and win, but not when you gave up 50.”

The Knights move on to play the title game against Freeport (31-3) Saturday at 1:45pm CST.
