Lady Hawks soars over Falcons

Park Forest  - Behind both of their all-conference players, junior Uniquah Hampton and sophomore Juanita Robinson, the Lady Hawks found a victory in the sectionals Tuesday night against Harlan Lady Falcons (22-7).

On the evening, "nerves" seem to have the best of the Lady Hawks in the early part of the game, but once they calm down, the Lady Hawks began to fly at a calm attitude.

Ms. Robinson got hot right before the half demonstrating her long-distance skills by hitting a 40 footer. "Sometimes, before practice, I work on my half-court shots," she said after the game."

After this shot, she picked up right where she left off at in the second half hitting back-to-back three's from downtown giving the Lady Hawks a solid lead for the rest of the evening. ‘‘I know I was nervous at the beginning of the game. I was too hyped. I wasn’t doing real good in the first half, but I came back to life in the second half.’’

‘‘I think that was weighing heavily on the kids’ minds for the last 365 days. Robinson was a little bit of a roller-coaster ride tonight. She had a tough first half, but I thought she was clutch in the second half,’’ add Coach Maniatis after the game.

Ms. Hampton finished the  night with the high score of 18 points followed by Ms. Robinson with 17.

Harlan was led by Camille Byrd with 14 points, and Tiffany Morris and Tikeyiah Johnson each had eight.

Final score... Hillcrest 61 - Harlan 46
