Hillcrest wins Midlothian (Bremen) Regional

MIDLOTHIAN - As Hillcrest took the floor, they couldn't shake what happened to them a year ago when they were one game way from sectionals. With this in mind, the Lady Hawks came out running and gunning and jumped out to an early double-digit in the first quarter. On the other side of the ball, the Lady Hawks put lots of pressure on the Braves causes turnover after turnover resulting in a 47 - 13 halftime score.

"They remember 365 days ago when we were not fortunate enough to get passed Crete-Monee... that's been one of our driving forces that we get through this step," said Coach Maniatis.

In the second half, the Lady Hawks didn't let up on either side of the ball. 5'11" senior, Ariel Rouse played very tall blocking a shot igniting her team to get a fast break lay-up with freshmen 5'9"  Shannise Heady, who finished with 15 points. "We were not giving up. We stayed focused on the game," said Ms. Rouse. "We knew we had to go hard on offense and defense."

Ms. Heady added "we knew it could be do or die... now or never...  and we didn't want it to end like this."

With the game in control, Coach Maniatis, was able to pull his starters at the 3 minute mark of the third quarter. "Players 1 through 12 played big and contributed evenly and that's going to pay dividends for us down the road." Coach Maniatis gave lots of praise and understanding to the Coach of the Blackhawk's, Joel Quenneville, and how he has to rotate lots of players.

Senior Raquilla Williams had the high score for the Braves with 20 points.

DePaul recruit, Ms. Uniquah Hampton finished with 12 points and stated "we worked even harder than we did on Tuesday" after the game. Juanita Robinson added 11 points.

Final score... 82 - 37.
