Week 6...
W-H-E-W!!!!
CHICAGOLAND
- Mother Nature was out this week during Friday night lights and she
never let up. Just about every game
was played under a
constant rain... it's that time of the year - FOOTBALL WEATHER is here! |
|
Mustangs out-paced the
Caravan
Under the lights and the rain over at Gately stadium,
junior running back Jahwon Akui outshined his predictions scoring a total of
five touchdowns and going over 200 yards on the ground with over 170 of
those yards coming in the first half. "I think I am taking the offensive
line out to Burger King," Akui shared after the game. "When they made runs,
we didn't back down. I love playing on turf. I think it makes me faster." |
|
And from our advantage point, it sure seem to. In the
opening drive, St. Rita only needed the opening kickoff to get on the board.
Then the offense used 6 plays to score again on a 55-yard run by Akui.
The Mustangs opened the second quarter with a two-play,
70 yard drive for a touchdown by you know who (Akui).
The Caravan got on the scoreboard right
before the half with a 37 yard run by Milton Greer. But after the score,
the Mustangs rallied right back with a 45-ard pass from Rob Gallik to
Tim Gorski, then a short run by Akui for his 4th touchdown on the
evening. Mount Carmel was able to get the ball down the field and score
a field goal as the first half ended. They came right back out and
scored on the opening possession in the second half and made a
successful two-point conversion making the score 26-18. |
|
But the Mustangs lightning and
lightning back field of Akui and Starks responded with Travis
Sparks who scored on a kickoff of 85 yards that dazzled the fans. "I
came out ready to play," Starks said after the game. "But I owe
everything to the blocks I got up front." |
|
The game concluded with St. Rita 54, Mount
Carmel 18. The Mustangs are undefeated at 6-0, 3-0 (Catholic Blue) and
the Caravan are 4-2, 1-2 in the same conference. |
The Rockets hold off Stars
Running back Imari Henry had 24 carries for 109 yards
and two third-quarter touchdown for Rich East (4-2, 2-1). |
Morgan rolls strong....
In a statement game, DaRon Brown rushed for four
touchdowns and passed for another one concluding the game going 4 of 8
for 93 yards, 126 yards on the ground no 6 carries. The Mustangs are now
5-1, 3-0 in the Illini Prairie State conference. |
Oak Forest
rallies over TF North
Marcel Hamilton played a game he will
never forget. The senior defensive back scored twice within two
minutes of the contest as the Bengalis win 48-14 giving North
back-to-back loses in the Suburban Blue conference. "It was real
slippery, and our coach told us we were going to have to fight
through some adversity with the weather and the long bus ride over
here," Hamilton said. "That's what we did."
Hamilton intercepted a pass from the Jeremiah Barnes and raced 57
yards for a touchdown to put Oak Forest up 21-0 late in the second
quarter. He returned a kickoff 75 yards just 32 seconds later to
give the Bengal's a 28-6 lead at the half.
The kick return proved to be a nail in the coffin for the Meteors,
who countered Hamilton's interception return with an 80-yard catch
and run by James Pierce on the first play from scrimmage after the
pickoff.
The Bengals also rushed for over 350 yards led by quarterback Jon
Wolf's 119 yards and two touchdowns. Wolf completed 1 of 7 passes
for 1 yard -- but it was a TD pass to Dale Renshaw to put the
Bengals. On the other side of the ball, they held the Meteors in
check and forced three turnovers. Barnes led T.F. North with 158
yards and two touchdowns passing.
