- What a night....
everyone was waiting on the return of Jahwon Akui who didn't
disappoint early rushing for 67 yards on just 10 carries, but
on a long break-away sprint he went down. Early diagnosis was
a bad cramp. He tried to work out the kinks but couldn't, and
didn't return. That's when Travis Starks stepped in... |
He hit the turf running literally rushing for a game high of 148 yards including a 28-yard dash for a touchdown. "I just walked over to Jahwon on the sideline and said, 'Don't worry. I've got this,' " said Starks, who ran for 148 yards and a 28-yard touchdown on 18 carries in Akui's absence. "The offensive line started opening some holes, and I was really focused. My team needed me." |
Marian Catholic got on the board at the 8 minute mark on a 19 yard run by senior running back Joe Walker. |
St. Rita senior receiver Kyle Jachim scored on two touchdown runs and caught a 48-yard touchdown pass.
The Mustangs went on to win 34-14 to advance in the second round playoffs. Up next is Wheaton Warrenville South.

If Mount Carmel had to define their season in one word I'm guessing it would be something like different. Different because they started the season off with a self-imposed suspension on head coach Frank Lenti. From here, they were a little off and on during the regular season by their own standards losing three winnable games. But nonetheless, the Caravan is advancing to the quarterfinals against Loyola Warren next weekend.
On this Friday night, they battled against Stevenson (Lincolnshire). The Caravan cashed in a fumble recovery on the opening kickoff and took a double digit, 16, halftime lead against the unbeaten Patriots. From here they had to hold them off with defense stopping Stevenson on downs at its 12-yard line with just more than a minute to play on a 67 yard drive in 17 plays.
The Caravan win with a 23-16 win.
Denzel Thompson finished the game with over 100 yards rushing, along side senior Milton Greer who added 85 and had two touchdowns. "The coaches told us at the start of the playoffs that it's a new season, nothing that happened before matters," Thompson said. "That's how we look at it. Stevenson played a great game. They're a heck of a team, but we're on a roll." |
