Homewood-Flossmoor 35, O'FalleN 37

On paper both squads has tons of talent but in our coverage H-F just looks so solid.  Senior QB Ron Johnson (92-of-144, 1,374) has major targets in Patrick Sheehan (25, 396) and Willie Ross (22, 377) to rely on and a solid run game with RB Taje Smith (130-840). Todd Porter was 23-for-37 for 409 yards and 3 TDs, including 158 yards and 2 TDs for Darius Mosely for O'Fallon. Ronald Johnson threw for 221 yards and rushed for 117 in the loss for H-F. We are really not a fan of calling high school games upsets, just due to the nature of the contest, and we will not call O'Fallen 37-35 victory over Homewood-Flossmoor Friday night one either in the Class 8A playoff opener. At the half, O'Fallon (8-2) had a 20-7 lead, in the second half, the Vikings answered and got things going down to the final seconds... Homewood-Flossmoor (7-3) cut the Panthers' lead to 20-14 four minutes into the third on Johnson's 11-yard keeper, and the scoring bonanza began. O'Fallon went back ahead 27-14 with a 10-play, 55-yard drive. Panthers quarterback Todd Porter threw his third TD pass to Illinois-recruit Darius Mosely to cap the drive. H-F responded when Willie Ross caught a 3-yard pass from Johnson on fourth-and-goal with 2 minutes, 35 seconds left in the third. "When we looked at the film we knew this was not the typical first-round game," H-F coach Craig Buzea said. "This was really a third- or fourth-round game to be honest with you, and we knew that. When we saw them on film we thought they were the best team we'd played all year, and I think it panned out that way." The game went down to the waning seconds of the fourth quarter thanks to a multitude of O'Fallon penalties (19 for 209 yards) and two good offenses. Julian Johnson's interception of Vikings quarterback Ronald Johnson with 16.1 seconds left at the Panthers' 18 finally brought the game to an end.
