The Wolverines were led by their Arkansas recruit Robert Gregory, who had an injured collarbone and missed last week on the road in East St. Louis. Gregory didn't start the game but when he was subbed in, he ran for two touchdowns on two carries which sparked Simeon and they never looked back against Morgan Park for the 47-7 victory at the newly renovated Gately Stadium Saturday night.

"It was a game-time decision between me and coach (Dante Culbreath)," Gregory said. "It is always health-first with him, but I felt great. Our goal is still to win a state championship, and we had to start somewhere."

Elcee Burke took a majority of snaps and threw for three scores, but only after Gregory gave the Wolverines (1-2) the lift they needed against the Mustangs (0-3).

Morgan Park were led by Desmond Earles who finished the contest with 11 carries and 55 yards.

Mount Carmel 40, De La Salle 7
Mount Carmel quickly and methodically obtained a 40-7 victory over De La Salle in the Catholic League crossover over at newly renovated Gately Stadium (Chicago).

The Caravan (3-0) scored on three of their first four possessions and they dominated the undefeated Meteors (2-1). In short, Mount Carmel obtained 293 yards in the first half.

"I told our offensive line that De La Salle has a great back (Mikale Wilbon)," coach Frank Lenti said. "The best way to stop him is to keep him off the field. To do that, we had to win at the line of scrimmage, and we did."

Draco Smith (13 carries, 85 yards, 1 touchdown) started the scoring by taking a pitch from Don Butkus down the right sideline for a 4-yard score. That run completed an 11-play, 80-yard drive that became the template for the Caravan's offense. Smith had 13 carries for 85 yards.

Brandon Greer (11 carries, 207 yards, 2 touchdowns) followed with a 34-yard touchdown off of the left side.

Butkus had a pair of rushing touchdowns and Matt Domer scored from 8 yards out to complete the Caravan scoring.

De La Salle's Casey Brandtonies connected with Brandon Wright for a 28-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter to finally get on the board.

Mikale Wilbon rushed for 99 yards on 21 carries, but his effectiveness was limited after the first quarter.

Also with this win, Frank Lenti ties former Richards coach Gary Korhonen with his 306th career victory. There were no Gatorade baths or rides on his players' shoulders around the field, instead coach Lenti celebrated with a lot of hugs and handshakes.

"This is not a me thing. This is a we thing," Lenti said "I never thought that I would do this for 28 years. This accomplishment is a tribute to the program. We have great kids, a tremendous staff and great support from everyone surrounding the program, including my wife and two kids. It still hasn't really sunk in yet. It seems almost ridiculous. No special celebrations tonight. We are just going back to the school and start getting ready for next week."

Lincoln-Way East 38, Lockport 7
Lincoln-Way East wanted to deliver an emphatic statement with a strong start in its Southwest Suburban Conference Blue Conference opener. The Griffins scored touchdowns on two of their first three drives Friday night to beat Lockport 38-7.

Lincoln-Way East quarterback Blake Winkler played a near-perfect game, extending the first possession of the game with four successful third-down conversions and capping the 94-yard drive with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jay Yancy.

"We've been harping all week that third downs are such a big play," Winkler said. "We knew we could convert them because of all the offensive talent we have. We had a huge first drive."

Oak Forest 33, T.F. South 21
Matt Barry and Tevin Coleman combined to rush for 187 yards to lead Oak Forest to a 33-21 win over T.F. South.

Homewood-Flossmoor 42, Lincoln-Way Central 7
Homewood-Flossmoor is known for there offense but tonight against Lincoln-Way Central, they showed that their defense is something you have to account for forcing five turnovers in the 42-7 SouthWest Suburban Blue victory in New Lenox.

“Our coaches have been on us about our defense every week in film study,” said H-F’s Afernee Roberts, who had two interceptions to go with two offensive touchdowns. “We know the offense is going to put up points and it’s up to us on defense to shut other teams out. We came out and did our job in the second half.”

The Vikings (3-0, 1-0) struck first with 9 minutes, 14 seconds left in the second quarter. Roberts took a pitch from quarterback Tim Williams on the option and ran 10 yards to pay dirt on fourth-and-3. The big play on the drive was a 28-yard screen pass from Williams (16-of-21 passing, 288 yards, 3 TD) to Sean Jones (7 catches, 144 yards).

The big momentum swing of the game came in a span of less than two minutes late in the first half. Central (1-2, 0-1) was driving for the potential tying score when Thad Little intercepted a Cale Hayes pass in the end zone.

Less than two minutes later, Williams hit Jones on a 27-yard TD strike. Anthony Crescenti’s second of six extra points made it 14-0.

H-F scored on its first four possessions of the second half to pull away. Taje Smith finished the contest with 17 carries, 141 yards including a dashed for a 72-yards and a score.
