Where do we begin? For some, round two will be there biggest test and for others, well, they just hope they can continue on in lieu of a trip down state for the state finals in football.

Last week, Marist ran into the Homewood-Flossmoor and couldn't stop their offense. From the Public league standpoint, Simeon just wasn't ready for Lockport 18-15; and neither was Morgan Park against Lemont 56-30.

On the other side  Rich East and Crete-Monee proved that they belong winning BIG over their opponent.

On tap this week, for round 2, is several tough games including a dangerous game featuring undefeated Lincoln-Way East facing Wheaton Warrenville South.

In this Class 7A contest held Friday night at 730pm put the two-time defending champs at East' field. WWS will use the running skills of Northwestern-bound Dan Vitale and their stout "D" to stop the pass happy East  squad. It is reported that quarterback Blake Winkler has completed 60 percent of his passes for 2,237 yards and 30 touchdowns with just four interceptions and receivers J.J. Robertson and Jay Yancey have combined for 70 catches, 1,416 yards and 20 scores, so with all of that, expect a high-scoring game.

Lockport at Homewood-Flossmoor, Friday at 7pm
Last week, H-F had their way with higher seeded Marist and Lockport skimmed pass public league favorite, Simeon (18-15). The last couple of times these two teams faced off, the Vikings dominated including a shut-out of 35-0 and quarterback Tim Williams created one of his best highlight films. The Porters also have to stop running back Anfernee Robert in order to be successful in this game. Now offensively, they rely heavily on Billy Reed, quarterback, who can also run with the ball, as well as their featured back Dexter Taylor. Should be a good one and get there early... word has it that it's close to being sold out.

Brother Rice at Downers South, Friday at 7pm
From our research, this should be a running backs dream game. Brother Rice have Martez and Andrew Walker, and Downers South  have Josh Williams. But as it is reported, Mr. Williams has gained more than 2,100 yards and rushed for 32 touchdowns this season!

Mount Carmel at Bolingbrook, Saturday at 6pm
Mount Carmel will probably rely on a ball-control featuring Brandon Greer, but Bolingbrook has a bad taste in their mouths from last year, when they were knocked out by the Caravan. So, quarterback Aaron Bailey is ready to get this bad taste out of his mouth.

St. Rita at Andrew, Friday at 7pm
Simply put, Andrew must keep an eye on St. Rita backs Mike Zunica and Tim Lombard, who will be the key for the Mustangs. Lombard had four touchdowns last week against Shepard and well over 200 yards on the ground. Andrew QB Tyler Hook (106-of-173, 1,570) has two prime targets in WRs Joe Sanfilippo (43, 652) and Alex Zappavigna.

Crete-Monee at Peoria Richwoods, Saturday at 2pm
The south-suburban, undefeated Crete-Monee team puts all on the field downstate in a test against Richwoods. Crete-Monee will go as far as their junior quarterback Marcus Terrell (167-of-251, 2,463 yards) takes them along with his favorite target LaQuon Treadwell (61, 1,230). The wild card for the Warriors could be running back Kenneth Kidd... so if Richwoods concentrates on the passing game, that should open up the run. I still don't know why the number one seeded team has to travel, not to mention, downstate for a second round game. Nonetheless, this should be a BIG game in front of a lot of Richwood fans

Class 5A - to view the bracket
Washington at Rich East, Saturday at 1pm
Way to Rich East knocking off Metamora last week, 28-15, but this week, whew BIG test. The stat line that stands out is Washington has outscored its opponents 340-137, the Rockets are not that explosive on offense. The good news is that Washington’s only loss came from Metamora, who defeated them 27-24... Get it? Rich East just beat Metamora... so this isn't an impossible task, but it will not be easy. Going into the game, the Rockets must run the ball with Richard White and Rondell Willingham, and Cameron Smith, Herb Davis and Anthony Perkins must step up on the defensive side of the ball in order to snag a victory.
