Interesting playoff match-ups...

Homewood-Flossmoor at Marist, Friday at 7pm
As the old saying goes... offense sells tickets, defense wins games should be the outcome in this contest, as both teams should score often. Marist has put up 37.9 points a game this season and gone over 50 points the last two weeks, while HF is averaging 43.2 points a game and has gone over 50 points three times this season. We believe it will come down to a defensive play late in the game. ~click here to read our playoff observation

Prediction: Marist 62, Homewood-Flossmoor 54

Providence at Wheaton Warrenville South, Friday at 7pm

This opener matches two of Illinois’ iconic programs – two-time defending Class 7A champ Wheaton Warrenville South, who have seven state titles and Providence has with nine. Tigers have a difficult playoff path and will be tested every week if they’re going to make another state championship run. That starts with Providence. The Celtics have returned to the playoffs after going 2-7 last season. Providence is hot right now, too, after upsetting Mount Carmel last week. ~click here to read our playoff observation

Prediction: Wheaton Warrenville South 24, Providence 13

Lockport at Simeon, Friday at 7:30pm (Gately Stadium)

Even with a healthy Billy Reed, Lockport won’t escape the public leagues' Simeon in the first round. The Wolverines again appears to be the lone Chicago Public League team with a chance at making a state playoff run. They have rolled over their opponents since dropping their first two games of the year and Lockport will be a step up the competition ladder for them but Robert Gregory would be too much in the long run. ~click here to read our playoff observation

Prediction: Simeon 34, Lockport 24

Sandburg at Brother Rice, Friday at 7pm
Both teams are battle-tested after playing in two of the state’s premier conferences: Sandburg (6-3) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue and Brother Rice (6-3) in the Catholic League Blue. The Crusaders will again rely on the running of Martez and Andrew Walker, who have combined for 1,865 yards and 29 touchdowns rushing, while the Eagles have a key special teams player, kicker Teddy Vergados, who could give them an edge in this predicted close game. ~click here to read our playoff observation

Prediction: Sandburg 15, Brother Rice 13
