a Word from a Brother about Gabby...

In lieu of the recent hair comments regarding our young and talented Gold Medal Olympic winner Gabby I am now compelled to comment to our African American community. This 16 year old worked hard and strenuous to get where she is today. Her “HAIR” is the last thing she was focused on. Because of her hard work and dedication she can now own the “HAIR SHOPS” from which you purchase your weaves and you will contribute to make her even wealthier.

We have got to stop being so negative when somebody, especially of our own race does something positive. Jealousy and envy will only stifle you. Out of all the ethnicities I’ve witnessed it is the Black/African American community that separates and doesn’t stick together. Sometimes, it is sickening to think that I am a part of such a vicious culture. One that our grandparents and great grandparents took so much pride in; even when they were going through hell it meant something to be BLACK because they stood by each other.

We constantly get upset when other races make derogatory comments against our culture yet we are the first to exhibit this demeaning behavior. What a horrible thing programmed into our minds years ago. The making of the slave by Willie Lynch has proved its success over and over again. It’s time to break the cycle. Wake up my brothers and sisters how do you expect to come up by pulling each other down?

What’s the big deal about the hair? Who cares? Maybe, if some would spend more time focused on what REALLY matters in life versus the superficial things they would find themselves progressing a lot further.

This is Darryle’s voice for the day with love yet disgust. I pray someone is listening.
