What a wonderful day of competition!!! Champion Spirit Group (CSG) hosted their annual Cheer and Dance competition in Normal, Illinois featuring some of the hottest teams mainly in the central and southern region of the state. As for the "sport" Cheerleading, it has evolved physically and technically, as well as verbally over the years.

In the Braden Auditorium, on the beautiful campus of Illinois State, there are teams everywhere. You'll find teams up and down the hallways doing make-up, applying hair spray and stretching for their 2 minute and 30 second routine.

Once you are in the auditorium, it becomes necessary to add new words to your conversation, commonly called Cheerleading jargon. Some terms may vary according the region of the country the Cheerleader is in, and quite frequently, Cheerleaders will use multiple terms to describe something similar. These differences can be nothing more than a variation of the spelling, like in Herkie/Hurkie, Flyer/Flier, or Cupie/Kewpie. In other instances, totally different words will have the same meaning, such as; mounting/stunting, double hook/abstract, or flicking/sweeping. Words like toe touch, hook, hurdler, and pike describe Cheerleading jumps. Liberty, scorpion, elevator, and extension are representative of stunts and T, V, touchdown, L and daggers all depict Cheerleading motions.

Teams brought their 'A' game and didn't disappoint. Many teams were very pleased upon leaving the stage. But there could only be one winner and one grand champion from each section. They provide each team with a beautiful white plaque saying thank you... thank you for being a part of our event. This plaque went a long way with many teams and they were very appreciative of the extra efforts of CSG.

So, the next time you hear someone brush off Cheerleading as something frivolous, remind them that the sport has advanced enough to have it's own vocabulary.

About Champion Spirit Group
Champion Spirit Group (CSG) was founded in 2005. We are a full-service cheer & dance camp, competition, and consulting service company based out of Naperville, IL. From its inception, our company has been developed with the following principles in mind:

1.Safety above all else
2.Family-friendly atmosphere
3.Sportsmanship
4.Recognition & Reward for all participants

Our passion for the sport of cheerleading & dance is what motivates us on a daily basis. We want to expose as many young athletes to the sport as possible through our camps, workshops, and competitive events. We firmly believe that it doesn’t matter what a cheerleader or dancer does on the mat or dance floor, it matters what they do in life. It’s not all about the glitz and the glamour, it’s more about teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, integrity, and self-esteem. We hold these values true in our everyday lives, and we do our best to apply them across the board in every aspect of our business.

Top 10 reasons to Choose CSG

■Columbus Convention Center (Columbus, OH)
■Independence Events Center (Kansas City, MO)
■Kalahari Resort (Wisconsin Dells, WI)
■Tulsa Convention Center (Tulsa, OK)
■Braden Auditorium (Bloomington/Normal, IL)
■Schaumburg Convention Center (Chicago, IL)
■Indiana Convention Center (Indianapolis, IN)

2. Gifts & Awards for every team and competitor – unlike other competition companies, we don’t skimp when it comes to the kids. Every team receives an award regardless of their placement. Every competitor on every team that places in the top 3 receives a commemorative medallion, and every participant 4th grade & below receives an individual award (regardless of placement).

3. Plenty of warm-up time – we understand how important warm-up time is at competition. This is why we try to make our warm-up area as stress- free as possible. We give our squads as much warm- up space and time as possible to help them prepare for the performance of a lifetime.

4. VIP treatment for coaches – our coaches always receive a front-row seat for their team’s performance. We also have VIP Hospitality Suite at all of our competitions, and most importantly our coaches never have to pay a dime to attend any of our competitive events.

5. Divisions for everyone – CSG will follow the USASF divisions, level rules, and safety guidelines for the 2010-11 season. For information on those divisions and guidelines visit their website at www.usasf.net.

6. Specialty awards & cash prizes – in addition to our awesome team awards, we also give out specialty awards that include Best Jumps, Best Tumbling, Best Stunts, & Best Choreography. We award Grand Champion awards, Top Program awards, and Sportsmanship awards at select events. Finally, we love to give cash prizes away to our Top Programs at select events!!!

7. Updated scoring & judging system – we have been working on a updated judging/scoring system for all of our competitions. The new system should remove even more subjectivity out of the scoring process. We are excited to implement this new system for the 2010-11 competitive season.

8. Bids, Bids, Bids!!! – Champion Spirit Group offers some of the most bids of any independent event producer in the nation. This season, we will be offering bids to the World Cheerleading & World Dance Championships, the US Finals, as well as the CSG Tournament of Champions. Hundreds of bids will be awarded by CSG this season!!!

9. Family First Competitions – Champion Spirit Group realizes that competitions are a family affair. This is why we choose venues that are comfortable for everyone (including the spectators). We offer tiered awards ceremonies so that participants and spectators don’t have to sit at the competition venue all day long. We encourage our parents to get into the spirit of the sport by participating in our new Champion Crazies contest (award for the most spirited fan section) and we have lots of new give-a-ways for our spectators.

10. Tons of fun!!! – We try to make our events into a big party for the kids and the spectators. We give away lots of gifts to everyone! We offer raffle prizes, we hold dance contests, we even offer face painters and balloon artists. Anything we can think to do that will help enhance the overall competition experience for our customers, WE DO IT!
