Boys Class 4A Sectional Semifinals at Lockport High School
Bloom cruised to victory Tuesday night against Thornton, 44-24, in the Lockport Sectional semifinal game.

Their nickname said it all... Blazing Trojans because they were red hot from the tip.

Lejavius Johnson knocked down 17, 8 of which came in the first quarter, followed by teammate Johnny Griffin, who added 10.

"Coaches told me to take the open shot, make sure they're good shots, don't force no bad shots," Johnson said.

Not to be outdone, Griffin tallied the first three baskets for Bloom in the second quarter.

"I was just able to knock the shots down when it was my turn," Griffin said.

In the second half, Bloom locked down on defense preventing the Wildcats from scoring, holding them to just 1 of 18 field-goal attempts. They made their only basket of the half on Marvin Jones' layup with 5 minutes, 8 seconds left in the fourth.

"In the first half we ran our offensive sets and made them play defense, and they didn't really have no legs in the second half," Griffin said.

Marcus Ford led Thornton with 10 points, all of which came in the first period.

After barely winning their regional games last week, and cruising tonight, they will face a tougher opponent in the Sectional final in Andrew-Homewood-Flossmoor, who play Wednesday night. The Sectional game will be Friday night at 7:30pm.
