HILLCREST HOLIDAY CLASSIC
Hillcrest 79, Rich Central 55
Semifinal at the Hillcrest Holiday Classic between the host Hawks and Rich Central was a really good game until Hillcrest stepped fourth. The Hawks, clinging to a 51-47 lead in the opening minute of the fourth period, simply exploded.
This contest ended in a rout, 79-55. “Once we got our rhythm we started to play the way we were supposed to,” Hillcrest’s Shannise Heady said. “We played together like we normally do.”

Marist 51, Homewood-Flossmoor 44
It took a four-star performance from top-seed Marist to snag a 51-44 semifinal victory over Homewood-Flossmoor. “Yeah, well, we did better than last time I think,” RedHawks junior Claire Ryan said.

Robert Smith got 25 points and 10 rebounds from Steve Taylor, while Jabari Parker contributed 17 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals. Simeon is 9-0; Bloomington falls to 0-10.

Joliet West 64, Waukegan 57
"Joliet West committed 18 turnovers and shot 10-for-22 from the free-throw line. Waukegan couldn't do anything about it because it made just 18 of 60 shot attempts, including a 6-for-30 showing in the first half."

Peoria Manual 62, Pontiac 49

Warren 71, Plainfield North 40
Darius Paul had a double-double by halftime and second-seeded Warren removed any doubt with a 30-point explosion in the third period. Paul finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds and teamed with 6-9 senior classmate Nathan Boothe (20 points) to completely throttle undersized Plainfield. The Blue Devils (8-1) nearly doubled the Tigers on the glass (55-28) and held Plainfield, their semifinal opponent here a year ago, to under 30 percent shooting in each half and .255 for the game (14 of 55).

United Township 52, Lockport 50
Offense was hard to come by for everyone but Tayvian Johnson. The forward scored 25 and added 10 rebounds as United Township outlasted Lockport in a game that was close all the way. Only three other players scored for UT, which will meet Simeon in the quarterfinals. The Mustangs (7-2) received 16 points from Billy Garrett Jr. and nine points and nine rebounds from Adrian Jeffries.
