Ray Evans, President of Matteson Bears Youth Association, said "they have over 300 players and cheerleaders that will be participating in their program this year."

The Matteson Bear Youth Association are a part of the Will-Cook-Kankakee Youth Association (WCK), which oversees 12 teams with five separate levels (midgets, widgets, peewee, junior varsity and varsity). WCK sets and enforces a strict age and weight matrix, which reduces the risk and reality of injuries.
HIGH SCHOOL UPDATE FROM WEEK 1

All of the teams use sports and cheerleading to develop strong, smart, responsible, healthy young men and women with an emphasis on education. Kids compete with kids of similar age and size.

Darius Smith, President of the WCK, as well as varsity football coach for the Richton Park Raiders, has been a part of the association for 18 years. When  asked what he likes about coaching this level of football, Coach Smith says, “it's simply the kids. To see the kids grow, learn the fundamentals of life and be a positive citizen makes this job easy."

WCK is not just for the boys playing football, but also the female athlete cheerleaders. “The cheerleading program is very popular and continues to grow every year.” says COACH Monica Stevens, Cheer Director of the Matteson Bears. "ANOTHER QUOTE."

Cheerleading is one of the fastest growing sports in America today. According to ESPN Magazine, there are an estimated 1.8 million cheerleaders between the ages of 6 and 14 years old.

It is said that baseball is America’s pastime but football has proved to be America’s love, and this affection is no different even at the youth level.

Will-Cook-Kankakee league is a non-profit, volunteer organization, that promotes health, fair play, sportsmanship, and education, through youth athletics. So, if you want to enjoy "pure" football in a community-filled environment, come on out... you won't be disappointed.
