Things got started Thursday evening in an old rivalry that for whatever reason, died off... and on Friday night Crete remains undefeated in a tough contest, as well as a couple other teams stay on the positive side of the equator.

During the month of October, 20% of ALL proceeds will be donated to Breast Cancer Research in my mother (in-law) Dorothy Fitch and sister (in-law) Dawn Williams names.

Crete-Monee 34, Rich Central 20

This contest is what Friday Night Lights is all about... two competitive teams facing off for a conference game. In this particular game Rich Central played host to the undefeated Crete-Monee. This game definitely lived up to its billing.
The Warriors jumped out early 13-6, and the Olympians marching down the field Devonte Black overthew his wide receiver target and Crete-Monee’s Anthony Standifer was there to not only haul in the interception but run it back 77 yards to give the Warriors a 19-6 halftime lead.

In the second half, Crete-Monee scored on their first drive, but Rich Central answered with Black’s 14-yard pass to Brandon Fowler in the corner of the endzone. And in the fourth quarter, Black hooked up with Shawn Mitchell Jr. for a 77-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to bring his team to within six points (26-20). Was this going to be a Friday Night Shocker?

The Warriors defense also stood up to the test in this game holding the Olympians short of the endzone four straight plays from the one-yard line.

Once the the Warriors received the ball, they milked the clock and was able to slowly move the ball up and down the field eventually getting it into the endzone on a short run - making the final score 34-20.

“I’m proud of my team,” Crete-Monee coach Jerry Verde said. “We faced adversity. (Rich Central’s) got athletes and we didn’t fold when everything seemed like it was going to go downhill.”

The win kept the Warriors (7-0, 3-0) unbeaten and was the first test of the year for a team that had beaten its opponents by an average of more than 31 points a game.

Rich South 28, Rich East 20
Deandre Washington ran 29 times for 169 yards and 2 TDs for Rich South (3-4, 3-1). Jaylen Zachary had a 31-yard TD catch from his brother Brendan Zachary. Kenneth Simpson and Roy Hickman had 11 tackles in the win.

The streak is over. After nine consecutive defeats over a 17-year period, Tinley Park finally can lay claim to defeating Oak Forest, its District 228 rival.

Second-half touchdowns by Greg Wallace and Kyle Sheridan broke a 28-all tie and lifted host Tinley Park to a thrilling 42-28 win over Oak Forest on Friday night in a South Suburban Blue battle.

Tinley Park 42, Oak Forest 28
“It’s awesome,” Tinley Park coach Nick Johnston said. “We knew we could do it. We just had to go out and do it. And it’s much sweeter to do it front of the ’86 team.”

Lemont 56, Hillcrest 6
Six different players scored for Lemont (7-0), and Mitch Balek had 11 carries for 115 yards and 2 TDs.

T.F. North 30, Bremen 20
Devonte Stevenson had 2 TD receiving and 1 TD rushing in the win. T.F. North (5-2) recovered 3 onside kicks in the first half. Bremen falls to 5-2 on the year.

Eisenhower 28, Reavis 20

Brother Rice 42, De La Salle 14
Brother Rice's Andrew Walker ran for 160 yards and 3 TDs. Martez Walker had 140 yards and 2 TDs.

THURSDAY
Hubbard 27, Robeson 14

Hubbard has won six straight in this public league contest. The last time Hubbard and Robeson played for the Little Brown Jug in the regular season was in 2001, a year after longtime Robeson coach Roy Curry retired.

Curry was at Stagg Stadium on Thursday to gather both teams together at the 50-yard line after Hubbard's 27-14 win. He made it clear he didn't want the rivalry to wait another 10 years.

Hubbard senior quarterback Quincy Skanes (7 carries, 134 yards, 2 touchdowns) ran a keeper 68 yards on the first play for a 7-0 lead. The Greyhounds built that lead to 20-0 after a 1-yard touchdown run by Quinton Skanes (8 carries, 40 yards, 2 touchdowns) and a 34-yard touchdown run by Quincy Skanes.

Julian 48, Harlan 6
In his second game since being cleared to play by the CPS, Daeshaun Hurley achieved a rare accomplishment by scoring touchdowns rushing, passing and receiving as Julian rolled to a 48-6 victory over Harlan Thursday at Gately Stadium.

Simeon 41, Vocational 0

DuSable 8, Kenwood 6
