Loyola 12, Mount Carmel 7
Loyola found themselves in familar territory against Mount Carmel Saturday afternoon - against the clock and a one-point deficit until Connor Person hauled in a 36-yard pass from Malcolm Weaver to give the Ramblers a 12-7 Catholic League Blue victory against Mount Carmel in Wilmette.
"They have so much talent that you never think you can shut these guys down," Loyola coach John Holecek said. "Obviously we played well on defense. Our offense was hit or miss, but it's a sign of a good team can squeak one out when don't play your best. Any time you beat a program like that it's thrilling. Hopefully they (the IHSA seeding committee) go North-South and not East-West so we don't see them for a while. I told Frank (Mount Carmel coach Frank Lenti) it would be awesome to see them in Champaign."

Willie Palivos took a third-down screen 44 yards into Caravan territory, and Person's catch on the next play gave Loyola the lead for good with 8 minutes, 25 seconds remaining.

"I tried to throw it a little harder against the wind," said Weaver, who scored Loyola's first TD on an 8-yard run. "It felt good off my hand but it didn't look good once the wind got it. Connor jumped and made an excellent play. He could have saved our season."

Loyola were led by Malcolm Weaver who finished the game going 9-for-18 for 138 yards and one TD.

The Caravan were is undoubtedly upset over the two touchdowns that were called back for holding during a 21-play second-quarter drive that ended with Draco Smith falling inches from the goal line on fourth down with 42 seconds left in the half.

Mount Carmel's Brandon Greer finished the contest with 20 carries for 189 yards and a TD.

Rich East 28, Kankakee 0
The Rockets were able to have a smooth sail after lift off over Kankakee Saturday afternoon with Malcolm Miller at the controls. Mr. Miller ran for a touchdown and also threw a scoring pass to Richard White. Darius Gilmore added a TD run for the Rockets and Anthony Perkins returned a fumble for six points. Rich East is 5-1 and undefeated in the Southland conference (2-0).

Lincoln-Way East has a formation called the "Tarzan Package."

The Griffins found a way to fight back to a 20-14 comeback victory over Bolingbrook Friday night.

The game winning play was setup when defensive tackle Kevin Bayer lined up as the deep back in the I-formation behind fellow defensive lineman Matt Solner, who was at fullback. The 235-pound Bayer rumbled off right tackle for a 14-yard touchdown to give the Griffins the go ahead touchdown. Bayer also converted a key fourth-and-2 in the fourth quarter with a 29-yard run.

"I was pretty nervous, I'm not going to lie to you," Bayer said. "Those guys up front gave us a great push and I just kept moving my legs."

The Raiders had a little over 5 minutes to form a comeback for the ages but on fourth-and-6 at the Griffins' 21, Aaron Bailey was stopped 2 yards short of the first down with 25 seconds left.

Lincoln-Way East was led by quarterback Blake Winkler, who finished going 10-for-18 for 127 yards and 2 TDs; followed by Justin Corbett, 2 catches, 64 yards, TD. Bolingbrook was led by Aaron Bailey with 17 carries, 222 yards, 2 TDs.

Crete-Monee 32, Bloom 7
We become so used to the high-powered, fast scoring offense of the Warriors that it took defense to set the tempo of the game against Bloom to secure the 32-7 victory.

The Warriors led 12-7 at the half on a pair of touchdown passes from Marcus Terrell to LaQuan Treadwell. But considering the moisture in the air in the Chicagoland area, the Warriors turned the ball over twice on fumbles, including one late in the half that allowed Bloom to cut the lead to 12-7. The Blazing Trojans’ only touchdown came after a fumble recovery on the 12. Quarterback LaVante Blackful took it in on the first play from scrimmage.

“We knew the offense was struggling in the first half, so we had to keep us in the game,” said Michigan-bound safety Anthony Stanford, who had two second-half interceptions. “Our offense played better in the second half and we kept playing hard on defense.”

In the second half, Crete-Monee scored on a 77-yard drive and a 99-yard drive in the second half. Kyle Tilley, who rushed 11 times for 55 yards in the second half, scored on a 2-yard run to cap the first drive and Terrell hit Brandon Sykes for a 5-yard touchdown pass to cap the second drive.

The final touchdown came on an 18-yard interception return by Aaron Moore.

“Our defense doesn’t get the credit it deserves,” Crete-Monee coach Jerry Verde said. “It’s the nature of high school football that the offense gets all the notoriety. But our kids played hard on defense all night.”

The Warriors held Bloom to just 46 yards rushing and 23 passing in the entire contest.

With the victory, Crete-Monee is off to its best start since 1952.

T.F. North 16, T.F. South 14
Whew what a game.... T.F. North couldn't convert in overtime but they received a pass interference call which gave them new life on the 2-yard line... shortly after that, a 1-yard quarterback sneak by Dion Beecham tied the score 14-14. From here they went for a two-point conversion since they do not have a kicker, and well... as Friday Night Legends will say BAM.... 16-14 victory by the Rebels.

"I am a senior and I am going to remember this (for) the rest of my life," Beecham said. "I can't tell you how happy I am."

It was the first time since 2006 that the Meteors defeated the Rebels.

T.F. North was led by Dion Beecham who carried the ball 19 times for 51 yards and a TD. He also threw for 10-for-19, 82 yards passing. T.F. South were led by Giovanni Canty, who finished with 29 carries for 144 yards, and one TD.

Brother Rice 38, Providence 31 (2 OT)
It took overtime but Brother Rice wasn't going to let another one get away like they did two weeks ago against St. Rita. In this event, it was Cody Stull who made sure the Crusaders didn’t.

Stull’s second interception of the game clinched a 38-31 double-overtime win for Rice over Providence Friday night in New Lenox. He picked off Celtics quarterback Chris Salazar on second-and-six after Martez Walker went one yard for his third touchdown of the night to put the Crusaders on top.

“That’s how we lost the Rita game, in that fashion,” Rice coach Steve Nye said. “We were up and playing well and all of a sudden they had a play that turned it around.”

Brother Rice was led by Martez Walker who carried the ball 28 times for 206 yards and a touchdown.

HS FOOTBALL
Curie 34, Vocational 14
With starting quarterback Reese Fleming Jr. sidelined for the season with a knee injury, Curie still cruised to a 34-14 victory over Vocational. Despite the pack stands and the huge turnout for the homecoming (Alumni night), Curie stayed focused on the game at hand. They jumped out to a 27-0 lead at halftime and put things in cruise control for the rest of the game.
