Wheaton Warrenville South 21, St. Rita 14 Wheaton Warrenville South has not lost since, and the Tigers still don't have a proven quarterback. Dan Vitale rushed for 122 yards and the game's first three touchdowns on 33 carries Saturday as Wheaton South built a big early lead and held on for a 21-14 victory against St. Rita in a 7A semifinal. Third-string quarterback Jordan Davis, who spent most of the fall on the sophomore team, played the entire second half in relief of injured starter Thaddeus Armstrong and likely will be under center when Wheaton South (10-3) meets Rockford Boylan (13-0) for the title Saturday in Champaign. "We're right back where we were in January 2010, finding a new quarterback," Wheaton South coach Ron Muhitch said. "Maybe that's the destiny of the team this year, to play team football. St. Rita was led by Mike Zunica, who carried the ball 19 times for 132 yards followed by Scott Thomas, who went 17-for-27, 118 yards, 2 TDs. "It's very humbling to have another chance at a state championship," said Hilltoppers coach Dan Sharp, whose team will face Montini at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Class 5A final in Champaign. "We have a chance of upholding the Hillmen tradition." CLASS 4A - to view the bracket Richmond-Burton 40, Stillman Valley 28 Rochester 41, Charleston 13 PUBLIC LEAGUE FINAL Simeon 36, Harper 8 Senior and Arkansas-bound quarterback, Robert Gregory, had two touchdowns and a 128 yards on the ground to help the Wolverines to a victory over Harper at Gately Stadium Saturday, 36-8. Simeon now advances to their sixth Prep Bowl, where they will face Mount Carmel. It is important to note that the Wolverines are winless in the Prep Bowl (0-5). Game is scheduled for Friday, November 25 at noon (Gately Stadium). |
