GIRLS BASKETBALL The last
time these two teams met was a little more than three weeks ago on
senior night over @ Hillcrest when the Lady Hawks made a strong
statement defeating the Bengal's 90-30. Well, tonight was no different...
The Lady Hawks jumped out quick and consistent in this regional contest
as they held the lead the entire game with a margin as much as 40. Click here

A strong run of 16-1 in the third
quarter sealed the deal. This run was the offensive explosion the Hawks
needed to give the starters and Samirah Ali as well as Kristin Marshall some
rest due to flu-like conditions.
“We had to play defense,” Marshall said.
“The defense was everything. It brought our offense.”
Now on the
other side of the ball,
Kate Stanton was the lone player in double figures (10 points). Senior,
captain Kristyne Smyth scored 7 before fouling out at the 4:28 mark.
“We were able to lock in on
certain positions,” coach Maniatis said. “In the first quarter they did a
decent job countering it.”
Up next is another season repeat between
the Lady Hawks and Rich Central. These teams faced off in the Hillcrest
classic where Hillcrest won with a
66 - 55 victory.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Rich Central 67, Illiana Christian 53 The last time
these two teams met was a little more than three weeks ago on senior night

Bengals 90-30. They were able to run the floor, controlling the tempo as
well as feeding off of the jam-packed arena's energy jumping out to a 41-10
led in the 1st half. And by the third quarter, DePaul recruit Uniquah
Hampton, had as many points as the Bengals entire team on the evening with

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Rich Central 67, Illiana Christian 53
After a slow start, the Olympians got
things going in the right direction behind the tag-tandem of Ashley
Huddleston, who finished the contest with 23 points, and Janae
Smith, who added a double-double (22 points and 15 rebounds).
"We had to play hard," said Janae Smith. "I felt like I
was stronger than everyone out there tonight"
The Olympians jumped out to a double-digit lead right
before half, 34-22, on several strong moves in the paint by Ms.
Huddleston play. This lead was sustained throughout the rest of the game
and was widen to as much as 18 point in third quarter (40-22). Illiana
Christian was able to get the score within 7 (43-36) but couldn't stop
RC's attack to the basket and they also went on a two-and-half minute
drought in the fourth quarter.
"We just wanted to make them uncomfortable and attack the
basket," said coach Brian Craig.
"I knew we could do it"
"Right now we haven't won a regional championship
and we are not sure how to feel, but it does feel good."
"I would like to think I'm versatile - I like to go
inside and outside, but I play best inside."
Illiana Christian gave an admirable game behind their
seniors Dana Poortenga, who was the team's high scorer with 17 points,
Jessica Wiltjer, Megan Huizenga and Mariel Knot.
Sophomore guard Alexandra Stanford
knocked down 14 points in this win.
Rich Central's next game is Tuesday in the semifinal
round of the Hillcrest Sectional. The Olympians' will face either Oak
Forest or Hillcrest.

T.F. North 95, Rich South 42
T.F. North put together the three D's in the regional championship
Thursday night... Desire, Dedication, and Determination to totally
control this contest. Not to mention
size, athletic ability, and focus led by senior
Jeanise Randolph who had nearly as many points as her opponent in the
T.F. North regional championship game with 40 points. She also snagged
10 boards to move the Meteors on the sectionals and one step closer to
their goal... downstate.
There next opponent will be either Harlan, who won
their home court regional over Rich East. The game will take place
February 23 @ 6pm @ Hillcrest high school.
Homewood-Flossmoor 52, Lincoln-Way North 39
Junior Memphis recruit,
Jailyn Norris, continues to blossom for the
Lady Vikings as she knocked down 18 as the win the Eisenhower
regional championship.
CiCi Shannon added a double-double with 16 points and 10
boards.
"We're really excited that we're the first team to win
the regional (in a while) so we've knocked off one of our goals," Jailyn
Norris said. "Sectionals is the next one, but we'll go game by game."
Late in the game with a 10-point lead, H-F, began to hold
the ball and prevent any offense from Lincoln-Way North who had
began making a run.
"We had a 10- or 12-point lead, and we've got great ballhandlers," coach
Sheriff said. "We would have been happy with any victory, by one point
or 15. We've got good guards, and we wanted to put it in their hands."
The strategy paid off and the Lady Vikings prevailed. Up next for them
is Lincoln-Way East in the sectionals February 23 @ 730p.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Hillcrest 74, Bremen 24 Over the season Hillcrest has
been up and down in the opening quarter of games but not
tonight. The Lady Hawks put together a fast-paced,
aggressive attack on Bremen which stifle their offensive
abilities. In fact, they jumped out to a healthy
double-digit lead before the crowd got settled in as
well as the Lady Braves warmed up. Hawks exploded out of
the blocks. In less than two minutes, they built a
double-digit lead.
It was 23-5 at the end of the first quarter.
Their defensive swagger
continued into the second quarter only allowing 5
additional points (41-10 at the half).
The Lady Hawks were
led by DePaul recruit Uniquah Hampton who finished
with 18 points, followed by
Autris Coleman, who came off the
bench and knocked down 15 of her own.
After the game Ms.
Hampton shared with us that "[tonight's win] showed
us that if we want it we have to bring it, and
tonight we brought it."
BOYS BASKETBALL Hales 84, St. Laurence 71
The Spartans continue their winning ways and trying to keep pace with De
La Salle as they knocked off St. Laurence. Senior Jamie Adams knocked
down 34 in the contest. On the other side of the ball, Darius Parker led
St. Laurence with seven 3-pointers and 27 points overall.
De La Salle 69, Mount Carmel 60
And the Catholic League champion is... TBD over the
next couple of games! But we will say that Tuesday night's battle
got the Meteors one step closer to conference champion status behind the
hot hands of freshmen phenom Jaylon Tate who had 13 points including 4
straight important free throws in the last minute of play.
"We've been ready for this game for weeks," coach Tom
White said after the game. "We really stood out tonight."
Up next for the Meteors is Leo. See you guys at the

GIRLS BASKETBALL Rich Central 84, Mount Assisi 43
The Olympians got off to a
face-paced, solid start and never looked back knocking off
Mount Assisi in the regionals behind the hot hands and
aggressive play of senior Janae Smith who had a pure
double-double, 20 points and 12 rebounds. Not to be out done,
senior guard Ashley Huddleston also had a double-double, 16
points and 11 boards.

Rich South 55, Richards 51
The Stars were aligned in this Class 3A regional contest
as Rich South defeats Richards in the regional playoffs.
This was a good old fashion basketball battle where both teams needed
to focus on the basics...
ball control and free throws. And on this night, Rich South was able to
control the boards and make their free throws down the stretch.
The Lady Stars obtained an early lead until the 3:06 mark
in the second quarter when the Bulldogs pulled ahead on a lay-up by
5'11" junior Raneisha Hill. From this point on the Bulldogs snagged the
momentum and made the Lady Stars play their game through the first half.
But as we all know, basketball is about two halves, and
in the second half, the Lady Stars went back to playing their game,
pressing the Bulldogs up the court and playing aggressive in the paint.
"Coach wanted us to play more aggressive," said Jasmine
after the game. "Coach wanted us to pick it up on defense and
rebound the ball."

From this, Rich South put together a healthy, fast-pace
run of 16-7 which secured the lead for the remainder of the game.
Richards' (Raneisha)
Hill, who came off the bench when
Brianna LeBeau got into the foul trouble,
led the Bulldogs with 14 points followed by LaShundra Patterson who
added 10.

Hill's basket right before the half that gave Richards a
22-20 halftime advantage.
"I'm glad they're stepping up," Mays said. "That's what
they're supposed to do. At halftime, I said, 'All the records go out the
window. You've got to leave it out on the floor tonight, and the team
that does that is going to be victorious.' " To hear more of

In the final two minutes, Richards'
freshmen guard Georgia Danos hit two B-I-G three's in the last two
minutes bringing the game within one, 49-48, but it proved not
enough to stop the Lady Stars who sank 5 of 6 free throws down the

BOYS BASKETBALL Marshall 70, Bogan 57
Marshall boys continue to get hot at the right time as Vincent Garrett
and Keifer Sykes each knocked down 15 to lead the Commando's to a win
Monday night.
Brooks 52, Tinley Park 36
At the Harlan regionals, Brooks tipped things off against Tinley Park,
as Ms. Wesley knocked down a game high 24 to continue their winning
ways. Up next for Brooks is the host school - Harlan. Tip off is
scheduled for 6p.
Rich East 65, Crete-Monee 39
In the
second game, it was all Rich East as they jumped out
to an early 11 point lead in the first quarter and never looked
back. The Rockets used their full-court press defense which caused
multiple turnovers against the Warriors. The use of the press
defense got Rich East out to as much as a 28 point lead coming down
the stretch, 64-32.
The Rockets will face Lemont Tuesday night 8pm @ Harlan high school.
