Feel free to share this article provided by AmateurSports365.com -

The season started in the warm weather back in August and looks like it will conclude in the fall, chilly weather Chicago expects. Once the season got started, there were 10 teams fighting and clawing to get to this point and now there are two teams at each level (widgets, peewees, junior varsity and varsity) playing for the SUPERBOWL and to be called a champion!

And as we are truly accustom now of doing, we would like to thank the fine folks over at Country Club Hills Sports Complex for all of their hospitality and to the officials.

Now for the action this weekend... Going into these contest brings about some good trivia for our Will-Cook fans... What team joined Will-Cook in 2006 and has made three straight Superbowl appearances? Click here for the answer!

In the widget game… it put the Chicago Cardinals (3-5) against the Markham Patriots (8-0). The Patriots got things started right away with an opening score by Mr. Justin Hall. Extra point was good (7-0). The Cardinals answered on their next possession with a 60 yard sprint down the field by Mr. Tyian Miller. Their extra point conversion was unsuccessful.

This, unfortunately, proved to be their only score in the contest. Well, not to be outdone, the Patriots answered right back with a 50 yard  scamper to the 10 yard line by Mr. Jayshon Jackson. This setup up another score by Mr. Hall raising the score to 14-6 on the very next play.

At this point, the Patriots never let go of the lead and got their defense going forcing Chicago into some uncomfortable situations which brought about an  interception for a touchdown by Mr. Jackson, and a backward pass that was recovered by them.

Mr. Jackson finished the game with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions in which 1 was for a score.

The Patriots were able to score two more times in the contest, one right before halftime on a run by Mr. Jurvaris Casey (35-6) and one by Mr. Justin Hall to complete the game (41-6).

The Patriots completed their second straight undefeated season, as well as back-to-back Superbowl titles.  And to put icing on the cake, the Markham Patriots Widgets have won 23 games in a row to date... W-H-E-W!!! Congratulations guys and thank you Coach Bridges for your feedback!!!

On the change of possession (kickoff), the Jets Mr. Darshon McCullough returned the ball to the house for a touchdown getting them on the board first (extra point failed) - 6-0. So, they maintained the lead all afternoon and  increased it in the second half on a 45 yard score again by Mr. McCullough. This was his second score in the game.  The Jets sealed the game with an interception and a 62 yard run by Mr. Marcus Hussey that dazzled the crowd giving the them a lead and the final score of 19-0.

Up next was the Junior Varsity game … Markham Patriots (8-0) took on Eastside (4-4)… This game proved to be a game of inches. Both teams jockeyed back and forth trying to exploits weaknesses, but the defenses stood very strong. So, the Patriots went deep into the playbook and brought out some razzle dazzle in order to get on the board. The play took place right before the half, where Markham did a quarterback flip-back pass that caught the Bulldogs off-guard for the only score in the game (extra point was good) – 7-0.

The third quarter played out just the way the first quarter did with each team not able to move into the endzone and both defenses standing  strong.

In the fourth and final quarter, the Patriots got some more offense going on a quarterback sneak by Mr. Davonte Jones who was able to run for over 30 yards, but a couple of plays later, he unfortunately threw an interception.

On the next possession, the  Bulldogs were not able to take advantage of the turnover and gave the ball right back to Markham.

The Patriots ran a few plays and returned the favor by turning the ball back over with 2:30 left in the game. This turnover gave the Bulldogs news life and even got their crowd back into the game.

But uunfortunately, on the very next play, Eastside fumbled the ball and it was recovered by Markham. This last turnover secured the game with a 7-0 final score for the Patriots as well as undefeated.

Congratulations Markham Patriots Junior Varsity Team on your Championship!

Now in the main event, this game featured the undefeated Matteson Bears (8-0) taking on the stingy Riverside Colts (5-3). In their last contest (week 8), the game went into double overtime with the Bears slightly on top 13-6. So coming in, the Bears knew the Colts would  play them tough and would not just lay down.

The first quarter was similar to the junior varsity contest, where both defenses played tough not giving an inch and keeping both teams from scoring. In the second quarter, the Bears opened up their air attack and threw a big 20 plus yard pass from Mr. Jeremiah Mitchell to

Mr. Justin Vanorsby, which setup their first score. A few plays later, Mr. Mitchell executed a quarterback sneak putting the Bears on the board first. Extra point was good on a run by Mr. Ahmad McClellan, 7-0.

Later in the quarter and right before halftime, the Bears recovered a fumble and opened the air attack playbook once more with a 25 yard pass to Mr. Sean Blunt for their second score. This time the extra point conversion failed making the score 13-0.

With the offense able to move the ball and the defense holding a firm hold against the Colts, well, special teams didn’t want to be outdone. Mr. Jamari Willis kicked a near perfect punt for over 45 yards on the change of possession in the third quarter which pinned the Colts deep in their own territory.  A few plays later the Bears defense sacked the quarterback causing a fumble they recovered.

The Bears would go on to score once more at the end of the game on a 32 yard run by Mr. Malik Fountain. The extra point was good on a naked bootleg by Mr. Mitchell giving the Bears the victory with the final score of 19-0.

This was the Matteson Bears first undefeated season plus Superbowl victory @ this level. Click here to hear our post game interview.

Congratulations Matteson Bears on a successful season!
