Will-Cook Superbowl recap
The season started in the warm weather back in August and looks like it will conclude in the fall, chilly weather Chicago expects. Once the season got started, there were 10 teams fighting and clawing to get to this point and now there are two teams at each level (widgets, peewees, junior varsity and varsity) playing for the SUPERBOWL and to be called a champion!
Now for the action this weekend... Going into these contest brings about some good trivia for our Will-Cook fans... What team joined Will-Cook in 2006 and has made three straight Superbowl appearances? Click here for the answer!
The Patriots were able to score two more times in the contest, one right before halftime on a run by Mr. Jurvaris Casey (35-6) and one by Mr. Justin Hall to complete the game (41-6). The Patriots completed their second straight undefeated season, as well as back-to-back Superbowl titles. And to put icing on the cake, the Markham Patriots Widgets have won 23 games in a row to date... W-H-E-W!!! Congratulations guys and thank you Coach Bridges for your feedback!!!

Up next was the Junior Varsity game … Markham Patriots (8-0) took on Eastside (4-4)… This game proved to be a game of inches. Both teams jockeyed back and forth trying to exploits weaknesses, but the defenses stood very strong. So, the Patriots went deep into the playbook and brought out some razzle dazzle in order to get on the board. The play took place right before the half, where Markham did a quarterback flip-back pass that caught the Bulldogs off-guard for the only score in the game (extra point was good) – 7-0.
But uunfortunately, on the very next play, Eastside fumbled the ball and it was recovered by Markham. This last turnover secured the game with a 7-0 final score for the Patriots as well as undefeated. Congratulations Markham Patriots Junior Varsity Team on your Championship! Now in the main event, this game featured the undefeated Matteson Bears (8-0) taking on the stingy Riverside Colts (5-3). In their last contest (week 8), the game went into double overtime with the Bears slightly on top 13-6. So coming in, the Bears knew the Colts would play them tough and would not just lay down. The first quarter was similar to the junior varsity contest, where both defenses played tough not giving an inch and keeping both teams from scoring. In the second quarter, the Bears opened up their air attack and threw a big 20 plus yard pass from Mr. Jeremiah Mitchell to
With the offense able to move the ball and the defense holding a firm hold against the Colts, well, special teams didn’t want to be outdone. Mr. Jamari Willis kicked a near perfect punt for over 45 yards on the change of possession in the third quarter which pinned the Colts deep in their own territory. A few plays later the Bears defense sacked the quarterback causing a fumble they recovered.
This was the Matteson Bears first undefeated season plus Superbowl victory @ this level. Click here to hear our post game interview. Congratulations Matteson Bears on a successful season!
