RICHTON PARK - The Raiders hosted the Bears Saturday afternoon in which varsity would be featured under the lights. These two teams mark one of the oldest rivalries in the Will-Cook league. On top of that, Richton Park pulled out their customized entrance balloon. |
The contest was junior varsity... the Bears got on the board first with a 29 yard pass for a touchdown in the first quarter (extra pt failed) making the score 6-0.
The Raiders responded on their next possession with a 64 yard touchdown run by Jordan Boyd. His score tied the score at 6 (extra point failed).
Both team battle back and forth up and down the field before the Bears found some daylight and burst through it with a 64 yard sprint for another score. This made the game 12-6 (extra point was no good).
On the kickoff, the Raiders Jeremiah Banks
scrambled down the field for 65 yards and the score tying the game again at
12 (extra point failed). Whew...
Coming down the stretch, the Matteson Bears' determination proved to help
them in this contest as they scored the final two touchdowns including
a 28 yard touchdown pass bringing the final score Matteson 24 - 12.
Up next, under the lights it was V-A-R-S-I-T-Y time...
In this contest, the Raiders scored first and often knocking off the Bears 26-7. Richton Park scored on the ground on their opening possession with a 36 yard run by Rashard Harris. They also scored in the air with a touchdown pass later in the half.
Davonte Drakes got in a long run for 76 yards and a score late in the fourth quarter.
The Bears got on the scoreboard from a fumble that they recovered and ran to the end zone for over 70 yards.
In the end, the Raiders were able to obtain
the traveling trophy back from the Bears.
