ASNN365 - As many begin the annual argument of which (football) class is stronger, 8A or 7A, one thing is for sure, the Suburban conferences will be there. This weekend, puts some legacy rivalries on the field.

HF vs Lincoln-Way East both 3-1

T.F. South vs Lemont both 4-0

Then a couple of old staples... Rich East vs Rich Central (homecoming); Rich South vs Bloom; and Kankakee vs Crete.

SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS

Brother Rice 21, Gordon Tech 0
Billy McGivern tossed two touchdown passes to JaRon Hill for Brother Rice (4-1, 1-1).
 

Ag. Science 30, DuSable 24
Courtney Ousley rushed for 315 yards to lead the offense for Ag. Science (3-2, 2-1).
 

FRIDAY NIGHT HIGHLIGHTS

Rich Central 24, Rich East 21
 

When Rich Central junior quarterback Devonte Black fumbled and lost the ball with four minutes to play, leading to a go-ahead touchdown by rival Rich East, he was in tears on the sidelines.

Senior running back Darelle Black made sure his kid brother didn't get too far down in the dumps.

"I told him to keep his head up and that he was a leader on this team," Darelle said. "I knew we were going to get another chance to win our Homecoming--game."

He was right.

With his team trailing 21-18 with 2:12 to play, Devonte directed the Olympians 65 yards in nine plays, culminating with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Lawrence Nettles with 40 seconds left to claim a stunning 24-21--Southland Athletic Conference win Friday night in Olympia Fields.

Rich Central (3-2, 2-0) had lost its--last six meetings against Rich East (2-3, 0-2).

"Our coaches have a lot of confidence in our two-minute drill," said Devonte, who lit up the sky with 21-of-36 passing for 328 yards and three touchdowns.

"On the touchdown pass, we found an opening in the middle of their defense. Lawrence did a great job getting to the end zone after making the catch.

"I was really upset after making that fumble, but my brother really calmed me down.

St. Rita 41, Bishop McNamara 21: Jahwon Akui rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns to make host St. Rita a winner in the Catholic League crossover. Travis Starks also starred for the Mustangs, running for 126 yards and two scores.

T.F. North 42, Hillcrest 7: Host T.F. North (4-1, 2-1) cruised in the South Suburban Blue as Rob Austin reached the end zone on a 25-yard reception and 86-yard kickoff return. LeBryon Collins tacked on touchdown runs of 5 and 1 yards for the Meteors. Hillcrest fell to 0-5, 0-3.

Marian Catholic 21, Notre Dame 20 (OT): John Rhode's 10-yard touchdown pass to Randall Wells, coupled with Jabari Danzy's extra-point kick, made host Marian Catholic a winner in the East Suburban Catholic Conference. Wells also caught a 12-yard scoring pass from Rhode. The Spartans' other TD came on a 29-yard run by Jeruel Taylor (17 carries, 123 yards).

Sandburg 42, Lincoln-Way Central 6: Jermell Harris scored three touchdowns, including one on a 25-yard interception return, to spark visiting Sandburg in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Harris' other scores came on runs covering 27 and 1 yards. Ryan Ondras contributed a 2-yard TD run for Lincoln-Way Central.

Rich South 14, Bloom 7

Iman Kelly caught a 70-yard touchdown pass for Rich South (4-1, 2-0 Southland) in the game in Chicago Heights.


Lincoln-Way East 31, Homewood-Flossmoor 21
Nate Royer's interception in the endzone helped secure the win for Lincoln-Way East (4-1,3-0). On offense, Blake Winkler had a pair of touchdown throws and Tyler Starke added one on the ground.

Sandburg 42, Lincoln-Way Central 6
Jermell Harris had eight carries for 91 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Sandburg offense.

 

Shepard 35, Evergreen Park 21
Shepard's John Kotas had a 17-yard interception return for a touchdown and Tarcal Davis rushed for two more scores in the win.


Loyola 35, St. Ignatius 0
Loyola quarterback Malcolm Weaver threw four touchdowns passes.

THURSDAY NIGHT HIGHLIGHTS

FOOTBALL
Simeon 42, Curie 0
A slow first half opened the door for an exciting second half sparked behind Horactio Banks, who finished the contest well-over 250 yards on the ground and three touchdowns against Curie.


Robert Gregory also got in the endzone three times on his own.

"We came out flat," Banks said. "The defense got us back on our feet, and we just needed that big play to get us going. Once we had that, we were fine."

BOYS SOCCER
Crete-Monee 8, Rich Central 1
Carlos Posada scored four goals and had an assist for Crete-Monee (12-2, 4-1). Danny Tucker also scored twice and added two assists.

De La Salle 1, St. Laurence 1
Homewood-Flossmoor 3, Lincoln-Way West 0
Vikings goals came via Alfredo Ferriera, Armel Konassi and Paul Doggett.

Lincoln-Way East 5, Thornton 3
Zoran Arsenovic netted three goals and Anthony Cetera scored twice and had an assist for the Griffins (5-5-1).

Lincoln-Way North 4, Joilet West 2
Osvaldo Salazar found the back of the net twice with Jimmy Patton and Marc Hein adding the other scores for North (10-3).

Nazareth 3, Joliet Catholic 2
Alex Wilkinson notched two goals and an assist for Nazareth (10-3-1, 2-2).

Providence 4, Mount Carmel 0
Brandon Picciolini, Mike Soucie, Brian Cichon and Jake Land all scored for Providence (5-9-1, 1-2). Brian McNamee made four saves for the shutout.

Reavis 6, Oak Forest 1
Pawel Rychtarczyk had three goals and Isaac Wheabon had two goals and an assists for Reavis (11-3-2, 5-1).

Rich East 4, Kankakee 1
Caleb Winston and Roymell Long each had a goal and an assist for Rich East.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Andrew d. Joliet Central 25-17, 25-20
Maureen Carls had 11 kills and Jackie Schweiger added 11 assists for Andrew (8-4).

Bradley-Bourbonnais d. Homewood-Flossmoor 27-25, 25-19
Kelli Bates collected 12 kills and 13 digs as Bradley-Bourbonnais improved to 10-6 overall.

Fenwick d. Bishop McNamara 25-19 25-7
Fenwick's Kelly Brennan finished the match with 14 kills to lead the offense. Sarah Hunt also had eight kills.

Joliet Catholic d. Marian Catholic 25-13, 29-31, 25-5
Morgan Reardon (16 kills) and Kelly Feigh (13 kills) led Joliet Catholic (11-1, 2-0) in the win. Feigh also collected 20 digs.

Lemont d. Oak Forest 25-19, 25-15
Becca Brabec had seven kills, Courtney Keefe had eight kills and Emily Brown had 10 kills for Lemont (13-5).

Lincoln-Way Central d. Thornridge 25-14, 25-12
Jessica Glennon had two aces and 16 digs for Lincoln-Way Central (3-8).

Lincoln-Way East d. Thornwood 25-7, 25-8
Haley DeYoung had five kills and seven digs and Katie Connolly had seven service points and eight assists for East (9-3).

Marist d. Carmel 25-13, 25-22
Caroline Niedospial picked up 25 digs and Mallory Salis had eight kills for undefeated Marist (13-0, 2-0).

Oak Lawn d. Shepard 17-25, 25-10, 25-23
Kelly Foley had nine kills and nine digs for Oak Lawn (10-5, 5-2). Keely Murtaugh added eight kills, 11 digs and four aces in the win.

St. Ignatius d. Loyola 25-13, 25-14
Kate Aronson had seven kills and Sophia Dodd added five more for St. Ignatius (12-2, 4-0).

St. Scholastica d. St. Gregory 25-11, 25-10
Carissa Atiles and Claire Chester each had four aces for St. Scholastica (2-4).

Sandburg d. Lincoln Way West 25-9, 25-19.
Megan Opferman had seven kills and Kara Kentner had six kills for Sandburg (8-4). Amanda Kijewski chipped in seven aces.

Stagg d. Joliet West 25-19, 25-13
Jill Conrad had 14 assists, seven service points and five kills for Stagg (9-8). Morgan Thomas added 11 digs and 11 service points.
