Hillcrest 81, Morgan Park 76
Sophomore Dana Gettis not only celebrated her birthday on Thursday night, but she also celebrated the Lady Hawks returning to the Super-sectionals behind her "hot" play. Gettis knocked down 13 of her 22 points when the team needed her the most - in the fourth quarter. "I just thought about winning," she said after the game. "All I wanted to do is win."
The victory didn't come easy as Morgan Park controlled the tempo of the game stretching out to a 7-0 lead to start the game, and to take as much as a 13 point advantage in the second quarter, 37-24. Kendyl Nunn seemed to be on fire draining the long-ball at will, but foul trouble got to the Lady Mustangs as four of their five starters had 4 fouls in the fourth quarter. And this prove to slow the temp down and shift the momentum.
Kendyl Nunn drives to the basket
Coming down the stretch, while Morgan Park was in foul trouble, Gettis drove hard to the basket, hoping for contact, but concentrating on the score, and she knocked down a layup to tie the game at 73 with 2:06 left in regulation. Then about one minute later, she made the go-ahead basket. The Mustangs drove the ball up the court quickly and kicked it to Nunn in the corner, where she knocked down a three which brought the game to one (77-76) with 9.7. But, Gettis was as cool as the other side of the pillow securing the victory at the charity stripe. She made 6-of-6.

CLASS 3A SECTIONALS
RICH EAST SECTIONAL
Hillcrest 74, Rich South 46
Going into the opening round of the Sectionals, Rich South was faced with not only Hillcrest, last years Class 3A runner-up, but with serious medical emergency from coach Brian Mays. Coach Mays went to St. James hospital in Olympia Fields from chest discomfort on Sunday and he was admitted.

“They’re checking my heart out,” Mays said. “I’m feeling good. All the stuff that they’re seeing I’m not feeling. I have a game tomorrow night."

This was both teams first match-up this season. There paths didn't cross in early season tournaments such as Galaxy and Hillcrest Holiday classic due to the early round loses the Lady Stars suffered. Hillcrest went on to win both tournaments.

The Lady Hawks came into tonight's game running on cruise control as they were able to make it through the Regionals.
On Tuesday, they advanced against the Lady Stars behind the nearly quadruple double by senior, Robert Morris recruit, Yolanda De La Torre, who had 14 points, 11 boards, 10 assists, nine steals and seven blocks. "I just wanted to play fast and aggressive," said De La Torre after the game. In addition to this fine effort, was Karlisa Harris off the bench. She sparked a face-pace run for the team knocked down 8 points with all of them on face breaks in the first quarter. "I just tried to make something happen,” Harris said with a big smile as she finished with a team-high 18 points.

Morgan Park 69, T.F. North 55
Raven Nelson led the Mustangs way with 22 points, followed by Gabrielle Richmond and Debra Jenkins nine each for the Mustangs. The Mustangs struggled offensively off and on during the game, but defensively, they were able to keep TF North in line and from shooting good shots when they needed to the most.

Nelson felt the need to keep shooting and she knocked eight big points in the third that get the Mustangs a comfortable lead. “My teammates encouraged me and told me to keep shooting,” Nelson said. “I continued to run the floor and got open shots.”

The Meteors were led by Nikki Anderson and Amber Patterson-Moss both had 10 points.

“We were just not able to get into any kind of momentum at all,” T.F. North coach Tim Zasada said.
